Period after a 20 month hiatus

Having a (very light) period after last one, some 20 months ago. Am 51 so had presumed I had pretty much been through menopause. Surprised by this sudden "period" - any advice?

I think the advice is to see GP in these circumstances.

I am no expert but have been reading about this recently. I went 11 months no period. Was about to put the banners out, it's over!!, then had a period last month. Exactly one month later another one which finished last week. And with just a few days gap, another one has started today. I was feeling complacent but not feeling quite so smug today.

I am sure there is nothing to worry about, just hormones, no rhyme or reason.

Sarcelle I'm in a menopause group on FB and just the other day somebody said the same, went 11 months then just got a period other day, she wanted to cry. I've just started going through it all, two very light consecutive days in the past three months. Must be so frustrating to think you're almost done then it's back again.

OP I'd definitely see dr. 20 months is a long gap and officially full menopause

Nice to hear others' experiences.

This will be classed as post menopausal bleeding and will need to be investigated as a matter of urgency- not wanting to scare you OP but it will be referred for a scan as urgent and you need to make an appointment with your GP ASAP.

20 months is a big "gap"

I am currently on 6 months and counting. I have had a gap of 5 months before then another bastard period. I am mid 50's.

At 50+ a year of no periods is classed as post menopausal and you should not be bleeding. See your GP.
