Hi. I live in the UK and am only 16 weeks pregnant, however due to severe anxiety and Tokophobia have decided I want to go for an elective c.section. Have had conversations with midwife etc about my wishes and mental health team are arranging a meeting so that a plan can be put on place. I do feel a lot better that my fears are now being taken seriously, however wondering what others experiences of an elective c.section are and what happens if I were to go into labour early? Thanks in advance

Hi OP I have had both ...a "normal" birth which was far from normal and an elective c section. The c section was brilliant and I would highly recommend it. I was 19 when I had my first child and 41 with my second. The normal birth was bloody awful, forcepts and stitches and just 3 days of ugh!! The c section recovery was brilliant.I was up and walking about with in 6 hrs and fully mobile if a bit unbendy 4 days later. Too old now to have anymore children but if i had known how good a c section was way back I would have been thrilled to have one. I would highly recommend to anyone ..it was a very positive experience for me.Good luck and try to enjoy your pregnancy. Your world will very soon be turned upside down but my goodness its worth it!!!!

I had an elective c-section. (I had an emergency one the first time and an elective the second).

If I had gone into labour before the designated elective date - it was explained to me that I would have to have a vaginal birth unless there was a complication like the first time.
