Should I take this housing association property?

Hello,

After 6 years of living in a very small one bed flat, which we've had so many issues with, but that's for another thread. We have been offered a housing association property. Woohoo !

The only and big issue is that the £279.00 a week ! Plus pricing will go up every year (I assume) My family members think I'm crazy for considering this. I can afford the property (just about) but it will be a stretch, if I'm honest and I will have to cut back on a few things. I'm going to see the property next week.

What do you think ?

Thanks for your replies.

I currently pay roughly £130.00 for my current property.

The HA has no right to buy scheme and it's a fixed tenancy till 5 years ??

I really would think twice
With your sons needs that does curtail your ability to increase earnings somewhat

So yes you get more space but you will always be there as no spare cash

And that’s just one opinion my dear so do what your heart says

I’d stay put put and save up for a deposit to buy own place. Before I get flamed, a friend has managed to do it this year. She’s a single mum receiving 0 maintenance and earning about 30-35k and just got herself a small place in outer London. I think that should put her in a much better position when she gets older/retires.

If it’s not a secure tenancy then I would think twice. I understood that that was one of the major pluses with a HA house.
