What do you do with Xmas money if you're given any as a couple?
(We are in our 30s with a 1 year old)
Do you..
A. Put it away for date nights or a day out together.
B. Spend it on necessities / bills /petrol
C. Split it and do your own thing with it

Just curious!

Can you half it to help pay bills and save half to go out?

We may buy something joint we both want like a new gadget or split and each get something.

I’d not use for bills as that’s not what it was given for, it’s in lieu of a gift so that the person can choose something they like for themselves.

Depends on what our needs are. If I had a massive credit card bill keeping me awake at night, I wouldn’t be going out for a steak dinner.

Generally, it just goes into the pot and is used as needed- mix of day-to-day and nice things.

We usually put it towards a meal for our wedding anniversary which is just after Christmas!

That's my thinking too, it's on place of a present, not given for bills.
But we are pretty skint atm, and can we really justify spending it on lavish things.

We will probably split it, save some and use some to have some date nights / days and get the baby looked after.

Depends on how much we get. Usually enough for a nice meal for the three of us unless we want something specific each.

Honestly we used it for bills this month as December is expensive but on next pay day we will put it into savings and use it for anything during the year that we fancy

Last year we bought a bean to cup coffee machine

We go on holiday in January for a week so put it towards a nice meal or something then

We used ours to pay for school meals and to pay childminder for an extra day.

Didn't plan to do that but we never have cash on us so it was easier than going to the cash point.

We have previously used it to pay for bills when we have been short on money (lost my job in January one year). Now I transfer the funds into a savings account and use that to buy things when we would like/need them (new boots, clothes, new gadgets for DH).

We dont get money as a couple, we get it separate.
