Abdominal ultrasound results: gp wants to see me but won't say why

Posting here for traffic! Anybody know anything about abdominal ultrasounds? I've only just got home after having my scan and the gp surgery has rang. The gp won't talk to me but the receptionist said I need to make a routine appointment to discuss the results. I've had a few of these scans before where I've been told by the sonographer that all is fine, but this one told me to make an appointment too. They've obviously found something and now my anxiety is through the roof wondering what the hell it is. I begged to speak to the gp but she refused to. So now here I am just waiting.

I know I'm asking the impossible but can anybody offer me any reassurance?

The scan was for abdominal pain and bloating. He did say ovaries were completely fine.

I had a scan and it showed gall-stones and a fatty liver. Certainly gall stones could cause abdominal pain and bloating but who knows?

I hope you get an appointment very soon. Waiting for results is awful. Flowers

It may just be that they don't want to give results over the phone. I think some sonographers refuse to tell people anything as standard too. Try not to fret. If it were serious you'd have gotten an urgent appointment, I'd have thought, rather than a routine one.

Wouldn't it be an urgent appointment if it was something that needed treatment now

Yes it would. I only need a routine appointment, but what sorts of things would that be for?

I can understand your concern, but if it was of urgent concern, you wouldn’t need to wait for a routine appointment, try to keep that in mind. Good luck OP.

Scannedworries · 20/12/2019 19:03

Thank you everyone. I just need to know what low level things these scans detect.

It could also be that NOTHING was found but they want to follow up on the issue that made you have the scan in the first place.

DrCoconut · 20/12/2019 19:07

I totally get your anxiety as I've recently been in a similar position with some test results. My follow up isn't until January. I was so worried and ended up asking for a printout of the result. Your entitled to see your medical notes. Now I know what the result is I'm less worried as I can see it's not sinister, just a minor and treatable issue.

HoHoHoik · 20/12/2019 19:08

My money is on gallstones. My consultant told me that loads of people have them and don't even realise until it's picked up during a scan for something else entirely.

Scannedworries · 20/12/2019 19:08

Fingers crossed! 2 hours from scan finishing to gp ringing is pretty fast!!!

I can't see gp til mid January.

Ihavethefinalsleigh · 20/12/2019 19:57

If it were me, I would speak to the Practice Manager and ask to be seen ASAP. This situation is unacceptable and liable to make you ill from stress. Mid January is a joke, after telling you that you need to be seen. I would honestly kick up a fuss.

Haggisfish · 20/12/2019 20:02

I would call and ask for phone consultation. Could be gall stones, ovarian cyst-why did you have scan?

Scannedworries · 20/12/2019 20:05

@Ihavethefinalsleigh this is how i feel. I'll definitely ring on Monday. I think they need to question ringing patients last thing on a Friday, leaving them in a state all weekend.

Scannedworries · 20/12/2019 20:06

I had scan for pain and bloating. I was told ovaries completely fine, no cysts. I don't have any gallstones symptoms, I don't think.

Ihavethefinalsleigh · 20/12/2019 20:07

Absolutely @Scannedworries, definitely speak to the practice manager.

Jingers5 · 20/12/2019 20:08

Don't worry, l had the same and it was only a fatty liver, l was worried like you. You will be fine x

Scannedworries · 20/12/2019 20:16

Thanks. Can you reverse a fatty liver?

OP posts:
TARSCOUT · 20/12/2019 20:30

Hate it when they do that! If its not immediate most unlikely to be urgent. Yes you can reverse fatty liver just but cutting out fatty food eg sugar fried food etc

anxioussue · 21/12/2019 01:24

If you had gallstones symptoms you'd know about it but not everybody gets symptoms

carnivalisover · 21/12/2019 01:43

Could you be pregnant?

Scannedworries · 21/12/2019 02:50

It's more a stomach pain. Dh has had a vasectomy and periods and ovulation are regular but shorter cycles now.

Lying awake worrying...

OP posts:
lowlandLucky · 21/12/2019 06:56

It means nothing, my Docs wont give you any test results over the phoe, good or bad

Scannedworries · 21/12/2019 07:03

Receptionist said if it was urgent the gp would have rang me herself. She was adamant it was just something routine and for me to make an appointment. Gp would not come to the phone to discuss it.

OP posts:
Jingers5 · 21/12/2019 09:56

I think for fatty liver, you have to go on a low fat diet. Try not too worry, if it was anything bad you would know by now.
