What do you do on boxing day? Is it a special day?

Just wondering what people do on boxing day. I feel like everyone is so busy throughout the year we try to make the absolute most of Christmas.

So we do lots of fun Christmas things before Christmas and then try to make the time really special. So I like boxing day to feel like a special day in the same way Christmas day is. But my family seem to treat it like any other day, they often spend ages at the sales. So just wonder what other people do and how you think of it.

I love boxing day.

We usually do a big dog walk in the late morning. This year we have friends coming over for with their dogs for the walk followed by drinks and a LOT of cheese.

Fireextinguished · 20/12/2019 18:58

Second Christmas for stepchildren.

CatyaPurella · 20/12/2019 18:59

Usually football but it's an away game too far for us to be arsed to drive, so it will just be me & my boyfriend eating leftovers and having a bit of a duvet day Wink

I take the tree down.

Mooserp · 20/12/2019 19:04

I don't really like it, I'd rather everything got back to normal. I'm on my own, DC are at their dad's. No other family nearby.

I'll probably go for a walk, do some chores or tidy the garden if the weather is ok.

TheFallenMadonna · 20/12/2019 19:06

Big meal (leftovers and baked potatoes) with extended family. More presents. Games. It's our well established "family Christmas".

AgeLikeWine · 20/12/2019 19:08

We usually can’t wait to get out of the house, so we usually go to a sporting fixture. Rugby, racing or football. Anything but bloody shopping.

TheFallenMadonna · 20/12/2019 19:08

Everything doesn't go back to normal here until after New Year.

Likethebattle · 20/12/2019 19:10

Try and get mil to move so we can enjoy lazing. Faffing drives me nuts and she always want to go to supermarket, I want to boycott shops.

user764329056 · 20/12/2019 19:13

I don’t know how people can face the shops

littlebillie · 20/12/2019 19:15

We do a double Christmas with extended family no sales no shopping

DecemberSnow · 20/12/2019 19:17

We dont do the sales....

Family all together, Big fry up , then chilling abit, kids playing with their toys, chocolate, sweet eating, play some games, have a nice tea, cold meats, salad, pickles, etc , then more games into the evening

jellycatspyjamas · 20/12/2019 19:22

We have a pj day, we’ve got house guests til the 23rd, family Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and the 27th so I’m really looking forward to having a chilled, relaxing day with no extended family.

We’ll watch movies play games the kids will play on the Xbox and I’ll open the prosecco early. Food will be ham, potatoes gratin and green veggies.

oobedobe · 20/12/2019 19:26

It's like Christmas Day with the pressure taken off! You can eat tasty leftovers or just graze, we usually have a cheese/nibbles for dinner.

We can play board games or watch a movie, maybe a walk for some fresh air.

There is no schedule to stick to but everyone has new toys and games to play with and choccys to eat! Love Boxing Day.

Clarinet53 · 20/12/2019 19:28

I go to the coast and have a pub lunch where they go overboard with the Christmas decorations. Blows the cobwebs away and the dogs love a run on the beach

HelenaJustina · 20/12/2019 19:29

Mass for St Stephens Day - I’ll probably run there for some fresh air and exercise.
Then leftovers lunch at home, then afternoon tea at my parents to see siblings and exchange presents (we don’t see them Christmas Day) - bloody love Boxing Day!

popcorndiva · 20/12/2019 19:29

I volunteered to work as its triple pay and not much work will be being done.

When I was a child it was the day we visited my mothers family in Liverpool

Originalyellowbelly · 20/12/2019 19:51

I am cooking for 12 on Christmas day and some will be staying over so I'll do a big cooked breakfast then wave them all off. Then its time for me and DH to sit back and watch tv/ films and eat whatever leftovers there are and have a few drinks. Bliss.

SuntanC · 20/12/2019 19:52

We go to the bingo in the afternoon. Cheap booze plus a chance to win back some of the Christmas spend! (Spoiler: we never do) :)

LittleLongDog · 20/12/2019 19:57

Panto! Then a buffet and games in the evening.

I don’t understand going to the sales on Boxing Day: you were literally just gifted things the day before, why do you need to now shop for even more things?

fruityconfusedhotdog · 20/12/2019 19:59

Boxing day here is a very chilled out day, to unwind a bit from the excitement of Christmas, and will be spent in our PJs, playing with new toys, watching a film and eating leftovers and chocolate.

We're hosting again on the 27th, so gives us a day to recharge.

peaceanddove · 20/12/2019 20:01

On Christmas Day we'll be having a big Xmas lunch with my family, followed by a two hour drive at tea time to arrive at BIL's for a sophisticated Xmas dinner with DH's family. So Boxing Day will most definitely be a cosy, lazy day reading new books, watching films and snacking on cheese and crackers. Then on the 27th it's yet another big Xmas family party!

gamerchick · 20/12/2019 20:03

Bubble and squeak and total chill day. I'm desperate for some down time.

LemonPrism · 20/12/2019 20:30

For children of divorce everywhere Boxing Day is second Christmas. We spend it at Dads.

Felipa · 20/12/2019 20:31

Boxing day is my day of recovery after the madness of Christmas. New pjs, champagne breakfast, smoked salmon and chocolate. With the kids all round my feet playing with new toys and watching films. Best day of the year!! I always get cabin fever the next day though and head out for fresh air.
