Aga Power Flue vs Conventional Flue

Posting here for traffic.

Has anyone got a gas Aga with a power flue? How do you find the noise of the fan?

We are moving into a new build next year and getting an Aga fitted. As the house will be heated by gas we are going for a 3 oven gas Aga with electric module, but the only flue options are the conventional flue, or power flue. I really don't like the look of the chimney on the conventional flue, but I'm worried the noise of the power flue will be annoying - it will be an open plan kitchen/dining/living area.

I know the dual control model would be an option, with gas powered ovens and electrically powered hot plates, but that comes with a smaller power flue that will still make a noise. Plus the hot plates aren't on constantly and take 10 mins to heat up, which sort of defeats the whole object of the Aga in the first place!

If anyone has any opinions or experiences I'd be very grateful.

£420 a month gas and electric bill- just saying !

OMG??? Seriously? Is that for a dual control? The estimates are around £16-20/week according to the supplier!

It is a 4 oven gas aga- about 12 years old- bought new and fitted by aga. We only have that and a gas boiler and the gas bill is over £300 a month year round. We only have the heating on a few hours a day from end October to april and the water is electric in the summer- so the rest is the aga.

It is a massive luxury we had a 30 year old oil aga before which was much much cheaper. The running cost of the gas aga was a big shock.

We’ve got an electric Aga, house is also heated by gas but decided to go for the electric with AIMS, as we weren’t keen on the flue. Love my Aga Xmas Grin sorry it might not be helpful if you really want a gas one.

Thank you for replying. @bigbubbles that is a considerable amount each month - I’ll have to look into the costs again. Do you have a power flue fitted?

@YorkieTheRabbit I did look at the electric but really want the convenience of being on all the time, and I know I’d keep it turned down to save energy and then not get the use out of it. Glad to hear you love it!

It is a box flue on an outside wall (round and in a basket) rather than a silver tunnel flue- if that helps? It is noisy and the electric runs all the time? You also need a different ventilation point in the room.

Have you the power flue running along the back of the aga? How bad is the noise - like a fridge hum or worse?
