Fuck I'm stressed. Is everyone stressed?

Sorry, possible Grinch alert.

I'm just fucking stressed and knackered. Working til Xmas eve, loads of crap subs/unavailable items on my Tesco delivery tonight, house it a shithole, beds need changing, 2 obligatory social occasions this weekend one of which requires me to provide a nicely cooked lamb joint for 12 people, everyone at work is imploding at how much there is to do before 24th, cat is a bit poorly but vet can't figure out what's up, and of course the fucking Tories.

End rant. Thank god we don't have to leave the house on the 25th. After lunch and clean up I'm getting in the bath with a bottle of pinot and not moving until the bottle is empty and the water is cold.

Not feeling christmas at all this year.
15 year old is excited and been playing christmas songs since octorber (he has autism) had enough of it. 6 year old who has autism is struggling so much as Christmas is to much change. 5 year old is sad its holidays as he loves school so much.
My grandmas in the last few weeks of her life and my grandads in hospital severely ill.

BrusselPout · 19/12/2019 21:08

Yep, 3 months of 12 hours a day/(mostly) 7 days a week at work, Christmas, a cat that seems to want to spend all their time at the vets and keeps eating anything that will make them sick, the microwave has gone doolally, we seem to have an electrical issue with the kitchen lights, someone crashed into the car, a house full of visitors arriving on Saturday and nothing is ready, and all the Christmas social engagements seem to be coming in for the same 3 evenings (and the associated emotional blackmail if you decline)

Frankly I'd like to finish work, tell everyone to fuck off and crawl under the duvet for 10 days.....

Ledkr · 19/12/2019 21:09

I've been Ill for two weeks so I've just given up. I did all the shopping online and will do a bit of cleaning if I can be arsed. I've just got the mantra "it's one day" going around my head on a loop I have 14 for Christmas but they are my immediate family so fuck it.

BrusselPout · 19/12/2019 21:09

Oh yeah, and I'm coming down with a cold. Fantastic 🤬

Quirrelsotherface · 19/12/2019 21:10

I hear ya, I absolutely hear ya.

DC finished school today, teacher opened the door to positively chuck them out let them go and I swear she was just glowing with happiness Xmas Grin

IRememberSoIDo · 19/12/2019 21:14

Not this year, I was like this last year and every year before but this year I had a plan and I've stuck to it! I saved into an account and kept it for Christmas so I wouldn't be in financial ruin by the end of December and I bought lots of my presents early. Have some food frozen. Have a final food delivery coming Monday so that could still jeopardize my zen like state but this year it's all going smoothly!

LiviaSoprano · 19/12/2019 21:15

@BrusselPout my cat is poorly too Thanks

Why do they always choose the time of he year when the vets are going to be closed and emergencies will be £££.

I've got a baby whose sleep has become even more awful and who will no longer nap easily in the day. I can't get anything done, the house is a tip and dirty, we've all had a horrible bastard cold. I've got £3 in my account and £££ quid on a credit card, all on presents for other
people. Can't sleep thinking of all the things I need to pay for. My showers been broken since September. Because of the constantly moany non sleeping baby I've just ordered any old shite for people when I get five minutes peace and haven't been able to be thrifty. Dreading the influx of presents into our house because it'll just be gift bags upon gift bags of stuff for me to sort out. Wish I could just cancel the whole thing as I'll have spent a fortune on others and will get some bed socks and a bit of body lotion. Ungrateful? Yes definitely, I feel a right twat and can't seem to shake the negativity. I feel awful that I should be enjoying baby's first Christmas and I just CANT BE ARSED.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 19/12/2019 21:21

YANBU, Livia.

I was VERY stressed last weekend, but I did a large selection of time-consuming Christmas jobs, so felt better. Now I'm not so much stressed as just completely knackered. I've got plenty left to do. Every year I swear I'll start earlier and have more done by now. Every year it doesn't happen.

Half-expecting to come down with norovirus as I was tending to a puking child (not mine) this morning.

TSSDNCOP · 19/12/2019 21:24

Totally unstressed. Went to a funeral today; things truly could be worse. Finish work tomorrow after a very tense 3 months. Can’t wait to unclench at a Christmas party tomorrow night which is the start of the crazy.

It’s just a big roast. You’ve got this!

AChickenCalledDaal · 19/12/2019 21:33

Hell yes I'm stressed. My shoulders are so tense they are squeezing my ears. I want to sleep for a month. But I'm helping my dad move house, there are two hormonal teen-agers in the house and DH just asked if "we" had decided when to go and see his parents. (No dear "we" haven't, because if "we" had, there would have been an actual full length conversation on the subject rather than just a vague agreement that it might be nice if we did that some time.)

Oh, and we have a massive pre Christmas deadline at work, but the internet was down all day today and no-one could do anything useful cos everything's on the bloody cloud.

missyB1 · 19/12/2019 21:34

gingerbread that does sound stressful. I had Christmases like that in the past.
I really hope you get some decent presents and manage to enjoy Christmas Day. And I hope baby starts to sleep better! Flowers

SmileyClare · 19/12/2019 21:38

Just piling on to moan! Yes I'm finding the stress is leaving me exhausted on top of working and everything else. My main stress is finding the extra money to pay for it all, despite sticking to a tight budget. It keeps me awake at night.
I caught sight of my reflection in quite a harsh light and no amount of make up is going to disguise these bad boy eye bags.

And the guinea pig died this morning Sad

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 19/12/2019 21:40

I’m not even doing a proper Christmas as such this year, and I’m still feeling stressed out. There’s nearly a week to go, and supermarkets are already running out of stuff. I’m tired, run down, and feeling pants.

LiviaSoprano · 19/12/2019 21:41

@AChickenCalledDaal Haha! I got that the other day. I got asked if "we" had bought the present for SIL he had mentioned vaguely in conversation last week.

I asked I don't know, did "we"? He refers to the England team as "we", so I told him to clarify who he was fucking talking about and I hadn't done anything because we both have limbs and a shared laptop.

God I'm a bitch this week.

madcatladyforever · 19/12/2019 21:44

I work full time in the NHS but I'm not stressed at all. I'm having Christmas off just me and the cat and we'really doing nothing. No cooking no entertaining nothing. I can see my family in the new year.

Rainallnight · 19/12/2019 21:48

No, OP, go for it.

Can I join in too? I’ve never been this stressed about Christmas before. We’re hosting DM and MIL, and that’s if DM can make it cos she has cancer and isn’t well at the moment.

We have two small kids who are amazing but I just never get a moment.

I think my biggest problem is that I’ve been poorly for ages - two chest infections, D&V, tonsillitis and - now - hand, foot and mouth, all caught from DS. So I think I just don’t have the energy I normally do AND I’ve missed out on pretty much all the fun social stuff I normally really enjoy at this time of the year.

But mainly I feel like I’m staring down the barrel of next week and have no idea how I’m going to get it all done.

Hopeful fist bump to everyone in the same boat.

Rainallnight · 19/12/2019 21:50

@LiviaSoprano, I’m so crap. The ‘go for its

Rainallnight · 19/12/2019 21:51

Oh Jesus, I can’t even type, how can I do Christmas?!?!

OP - go for it was referring to the Birkenstocks, which I know realise was 17,000 pages ago.

Villagegreenpreservation · 19/12/2019 21:53

Yes yes yes. My jaw is aching and my throat is starting to be sore. Had migraine 5 days last week and both kids been off school this week.
I’m hosting both a Christmas Eve party and Christmas Day and I’ve not bought anything useful. Delivery slot has a turkey and 4 bottles champagne on it. Bought nothing for Christmas Eve and spent tonight wrapping 24 presents - not had tea yet and DH asked why?! He just floats through Christmas, buying the odd quirky gift for the kids and I do EVERYTHING else. He also suggested my plan to make beef stew was crazy on Christmas Eve when he thinks I should “just make an easy buffet”. He can piss right off

AChickenCalledDaal · 19/12/2019 22:01

I really want some Birkenstock slippers now.

Both teen-agers have just announced they aren't feeling well. They broke up today, so presumably they will both have a sinking cold by the morning.

LiviaSoprano · 19/12/2019 22:04

Shall we all just fuck off christmas next year, everyone over to my house and I'll get in boxes of wine, order curry and put box sets on all day, possibly X-files or Buffy.

OP posts:
BrusselPout · 19/12/2019 22:04

@LiviaSoprano I have no idea! We have 3 and between them we've had a bad fight (lots of wounds but so far no abscesses 🤞) and one that eats everything in sight (human food, string, plastic!!) and an infection!! I'm so paranoid about one getting ill when the vets are closed 🤣

ThePug · 19/12/2019 22:08

I’m moving house tomorrow, so yeah I’m stressed! We’re then committed to travelling 250 miles on Sunday to spend Christmas with family which is just what I want to do 36 hours after moving house for the first time in 9 years Hmm Oh and I have a 3.5 and 1 year old, neither of which sleep properly anyway but get worse every time we go away anywhere.

AChickenCalledDaal · 19/12/2019 22:10

LiviaSoprano that sounds amazing. Will it be ok if I just snooze in a corner under a woolly blanket?
