Parking annoyance

Sorry about the crappy diagram 😂

Ours is the smiley house. Just to make it clear the other side of the arse hole house is a park and a lake.

We each get two allocated bays each, the space behind us is for reversing in and out of our spaces (this is clarified in all the plans etc when we bought the house and it is not for parking whatsoever) all parking areas are marked. We've got a visitor bay by our house and there's some others about less than a minute away to. I've never seen them used as all the houses are different. Ours are terraced so we only have two bays each but the bigger houses near by have garages and space for 3-4 cars on their drive plus visitor bays dotted all over the estate. Very generous parking here.

So the neighbours on one side of me (end of terraced that have the cross in their house) refuse to use the allocated visitor bays/any off road parking for their visitors. The visitors will always park behind their two bays meaning it's an absolute pita getting in and out. Everytime we see them parked there the visitor bays are empty. Both me and my husband have asked politely if they would use the visitor bays as it just makes it super awkward for us.

We moved here in March and it's still happening. Neighbour has a cabin in her garden where she does beauty treatments so lately it's got worse and there's sometimes two cars parked behind their two bays plus one directly behind ours to so we've actually had to knock to get them to move (twice they've been locked in cabin and not heard) part of my job is I can have to leave at short notice and It really is a massive pain in the arse.

So we've contacted the people who built the estate (new build) who are great and have sent letters out within a week when we've complained and been really sympathetic.

So again, the same car is there tonight. Yesterday we got in and saw the neighbours had one of their bays free plus the visitor bay was empty. My husband politely asked could she use one of the free bays as I was going out shortly and she laughed and just walked back in the house!

So what would you do now? We've tried the polite route. All parking areas are marked as said above, they really are obviously not in any way shape or form a parking area. Also the people in the flats kitchen windows are there and they are also sick of cars just being plonked outside constantly to, one actually parked it the other night and left it running for ten minutes (think to warm it up)

I know you love a parking thread! Suggestions?

So her business from home is generating cars parking in the wrong places? Is it legal to run a business like this from home on your estate? There was a parking thread a while back where someone did this and annoyed other with badly parked clients. They got reported the business had to move and parking was resolved.

Arnoldthecat · 19/12/2019 20:10

Leave one of your allocated spaces free and park directly opposite your house? Hire a van for a week and park it overnight outside their house and leave it there?

DownstairsMixUp · 19/12/2019 20:23

Ooh I never thought about the business side of things! I'll have to have a read around that. She's sometimes got 3 clients here so then the cars spread over the house the other side of our spaces. Neighbour next to me has asked me before about the parking and I get the impression it's pissing her off to as we all direct our visitors to the visiting bays so it feels like the other neighbour thinks she's above this?

Hiring a van is an excellent idea Grin funds are low at the moment near Christmas, but next year this would actually be a fabulous idea! I was thinking everytime I pull up and there's a car there parking directly behind it and ignoring my bay so they'd have to knock to get me to move but my husband says that's really petty... Wink

Right. First plan is to do what the second poster suggested and leave my space empty and park behind my bays instead. I will update with any interesting news. Grin

SourAndSnippy · 20/12/2019 08:52

That is so annoying.

Lochroy · 20/12/2019 08:58

I would definitely be investigating if it's permitted to run a business from the house and keep the pressure up on the developers.

notapizzaeater · 20/12/2019 09:05

Def check the business angle both with developers and council,

DownstairsMixUp · 20/12/2019 16:35

Another car here tonight parked in same spot and my car was at the top so to get in that gap they must of had to pull in and keep readjusting (you can't reverse into it as the lake and park are other side) all that effort and the visitor bay again is empty! I'm now beginning to think it's just to be spiteful now. Why go to the effort of pulling in the gap when the visitor bay was empty? It's a tiny little vw golf to, I reckon you could get 3 of them in the visitor bay that is about a 5 second walk.

About to look into the business side of things. I would usually feel bad about this but the blatant disrespect now I just don't care.

PriscillaTheHun · 20/12/2019 16:44

I think you need permission from the council to run a business from home so definitely worth checking with the council as well.

Could you get the developers (or council) to paint double yellow lines there? Then you could ask for a parking warden to come out and ticket them.

WeeDangerousSpike · 20/12/2019 16:52

Liking the business use question, and the double yellows too.

My only suggestion is ask the developers to put up signs saying 'vehicles to be parked in marked bays only' or something similar.

It won't stop people being purposefully awkward, but hopefully 'normal' people that just aren't thinking will take notice. Might reduce it a bit at least. And a official sign on your side is never a bad thing!

BlankTimes · 20/12/2019 17:00

You could start looking here OP
www.gov.uk/run-business-from-home

Do let the Council know her clients are causing lots of parking problems for several residents, not just you.

Brilliant idea about the double yellow lines too.

TimeforanotherChange · 20/12/2019 17:06

I would be tempted to squirt brake fluid on her badly parked car.

Or write TWAT with it. It will take the paint off.

The laugh and the fucking arrogance would have done it for me. She'd have got a gob full if I'd had to knock on her door to get her to shift anything. And I would do the petty parking and ignore knocks on my door. Her clients will get pissed off before I did.

billy1966 · 20/12/2019 17:11

OP, I would give it a second thought.
There is an unauthorised business being run from a private residence and the traffic is causing an inconvenience to the neighbours.

Ring it in.

I also think requesting the yellow lines is an excellent idea.

Ayemama · 20/12/2019 17:28

Anyone you know with a car that's not currently being used that could leave it somewhere awkward for neighbour?
Totally CF's

DownstairsMixUp · 20/12/2019 17:33

Thanks everyone. Glad I'm not being irrational here, I've contacted the council tonight via email. I wavered a bit and felt bad but I just remembered her laughing and thought no. We've tried to be polite so it's on them now.

The developers are sending out a letter reminding residents to direct visitors to the allocated bays and the letter says if they continue to get complaints then the yellow lines will be put in. I've honestly never had bad neighbours before. The other two houses are super lovely and cause no problems at all, it's a shame there's one here that has to ruin it!

Ooh and yesterday night after the car left the man that lives next door moved his car out of his bay just to park behind their own bays wtf?? Do you think it's just some sort of weird entitlement they think they have? Honestly I there is so much parking here it's mad, even if there was an instance where all the visitor bays were full (never happened yet) there is ample parking elsewhere to!

OP posts:
DownstairsMixUp · 20/12/2019 20:28

So just as another car left, another has pulled up and parked in the same space. Can see the cabin in use. Visitor bay empty. Have now messaged as much detail as possible to the council. So bloody annoyed !

OP posts:
JennyWren · 20/12/2019 21:02

Have you looked to see if they have a website for their business? So they have instructions for their customers as to how they should park? If not, is it a service you could book (using a false name if necessary) to see if you get any instructions? Evidence in writing if they are actively getting their clients to park there would be powerful in support of a request for yellow lines...

Branster · 20/12/2019 21:11

Don’t have time to read your first post OP but absolutely love your diagram!!

DownstairsMixUp · 20/12/2019 21:14

Thanks I thought the diagram was pants Grin

Ooh no I haven't tried that but I will! I think she encourages them to park there. Imagine if she's on mumsnet. waves

DownstairsMixUp · 23/12/2019 15:39

Every house received the letters yesterday, unfortunately arse hole neighbour seems to think this doesn't apply to them and they currently have two cars parked side by side in the gap meaning we will have to knock in an hour when we go out to get them to move the cars 🙄

OP posts:
FanSpamTastic · 23/12/2019 16:11

Just knock and complain every single time. Also take photos and forward to the developer - every single time. Hopefully you will get yellow lines out in.

We have similar arse hole neighbours who parked in turning spaces - just complained to their landlord every time!

Don't play silly b's by blocking them in. Keep the moral high ground!

DownstairsMixUp · 23/12/2019 16:31

Still there! Am going out so will have to knock to get them to move this time as when there are two cars there I can't physically reverse anywhere apart from straight and there's flats behind me. It's not rude woman's cars. These are two new cars! Will update lager
