Refurbed iPad Mini 4 vs new iPad Mini 5?

The former is £279, but already a few years old.

The latter is this year’s model and is £100 dearer.

The recipient uses it for watching stuff on iplayer, the CBeebies app for grandkids, emails and browsing mainly.

He did have his last ancient one for years and years, so I sort of feel as though it’s worth getting the new one this time round, so he can keep it long-term...any advice?

iPads and iPhones are outdated to the point of uselessness after a good few years. Our old iPad mini despite being in pristine condition eventually became incompatible with lots of new apps (though it took years and years) so I would say go for the newest version possible. Despite that, I still think they're worth it. I love me an iPad.

Thanks grump! The current one is 5 yrs old and struggles to update a lot of apps so I’m inclined to agree with you. They’re just so much more expensive now than they were then! 😱

Yeah, the 4 is four years old. I'd go for the 5. Well, actually I'd go for the current 10" one, but it is £349 for the base one so...

My iPad Air is six and has fallen off the update cycle - it can't get the current iOS13. The 4 won't last long.
