Threads only you seem to remember....

Has anyone else ever read a thread and then been unable to find it, or any other poster who remembers it?

Many years ago there was a thread in which the OP asked if posters would like her to try and see how much information she could find out about them. Sort of like a wake up call as to how much information they shared about themselves, their lives, families, and other personal information.

Over the last few years i've mentioned the thread on some whatever happened on XYZ threads, but no one else seems to remember it.

Does anyone else have a similar thread that only they seem to remember? If so please share so that I, and others, can finally be assured that it did actually exist. Grin

No, but that sounds like an amazing (and terrifying) thread

FenellaMaxwell · 18/12/2019 08:14

I think I remember that? Or at least it being talked about on another thread?

WaterSheep · 18/12/2019 08:17

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse It was both fascinating and terrifying in equal measures.

Or at least it being talked about on another thread?

It might have been me taking about it. Grin

I REMEMBER THAT THREAD! Grin

I honestly don't remember reading any replies or if the OP managed to find out information on posters. But I remember it.

firsttimebuyer20

You do!!! Shock I was beginning to think it was all in my head.

I remember one when I first joined about a woman whose dad had left her an inheritance, but her stepmum kept ringing her and turning up at the door telling her she had to give half (it all?) of it to her own son.

She got really threatening.

I never saw a resolution-can only presume it got deleted and was a troll?!

firsttimebuyer20 · 18/12/2019 08:41

@WaterSheep fear not, you aren't going crazy Smile

Shannith · 18/12/2019 08:45

I remember it too and have used it to explain to people how easy it is to work out who you are on "anonymous" forums.

Mumsnet is NOT anonymous!

Just because we don't use real names doesn't mean someone can't work out who you are with a reasonable degree of accuracy unless you regularly name change or change details.

Shannith · 18/12/2019 08:47

I'm not offering but it would be brilliant if someone could do the thread again.

It was a bit of an oh fuck moment for a lot of people!

Sparklingbrook · 18/12/2019 08:47

I remember that. People were queuing up begging to be ‘done’. Grin

WaterSheep · 18/12/2019 08:55

fedup21 I hope someone else can help you with a resolution to the thread.

It was a bit of an oh fuck moment for a lot of people!

I think that's why it has stuck with me over the years, some of the information shared on here is so identifying. To see posters shocked at how much could be found by a stranger online was eye opening.

Shock and this just reinforces my weekly name change.

WaterSheep · 18/12/2019 10:16

Sparklingbrook Yay, another one who remember. Yes there were pages and pages of posters begging for the OP to search for them. Now I look back it's shocking how excited they were.
