I still miss Woolies. I bloody loved that shop.

And I miss our local post office as you could buy all sorts of nonsense and have a chat at the same time.

@TheHuntingOfTheSarky
I was coming in to say Sephora too. There was one in Merry Hill.

wineoclockthanks · 18/12/2019 07:21

Richards Shops - bought all my work clothing from there, OMG, the shoulder pads Grin

Tchibo - stock changed every week and I spent a fortune in there.

BHS for lighting and knickers.

I find Wilko has filled the Woolies gap.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 18/12/2019 07:23

BHS at Xmas!...only at Xmas though

Verily1 · 18/12/2019 07:27

Ottakers the bookshop

Kookai

Athena

MaudesMum · 18/12/2019 07:27

East. Only gone recently, but much missed.

creamcheeseandlox · 18/12/2019 07:28

Wilko's is like a current day woolies though isn't it. Homeware, gardening, pick n mix, it stocks practically everything Woolworths did.

Ginfordinner · 18/12/2019 07:34

BHS

catwithflowers · 18/12/2019 07:34

Snowmonster my first Saturday job was also at Woolies 😊. Started on pick and mix, then the make up counter (miners and Rimmel bliss) then was promoted to Customer Service desk. Occasionally had to cover ‘glass case’ which was jewellery, watches etc.and hated that. Our supervisors were dragons and we had to call them Miss xxx, never by their first names 😅

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 18/12/2019 07:35

C&A
Woolies
Mark one

mrspotatohed · 18/12/2019 07:42

Aw I loved Woolies it reminds me of being a kid. Going to get the newest Disney film on video and a pick n mix, I can remember the excitement Shock

fedup21 · 18/12/2019 07:47

Ooh yes, Chelsea girl!

We had a few local shops which just sold jeans and don’t have anything like that any more?!

RickOShay · 18/12/2019 07:50

Woolies for me too. I could always find what I wanted. I liked their children’s clothes. I do really miss it Grin

beguilingeyes · 18/12/2019 07:57

Principles! all my work clothes.

I miss Banana Republic and we always make a beeline for C&A whenever we're in Europe.

TheWinterCaillech · 18/12/2019 07:58

Bookshops.
All of them, independents and chain.

Ginfordinner · 18/12/2019 08:03

I hate it when someone starts a thread being gleeful about yet another retailer going under.

They don't care about people losing jobs and give the impression that only ever shopping online is morally superior.

DianaT1969 · 18/12/2019 08:07

There are Woolworths in Berlin. Same branding and similar stock to Wilko.

DianaT1969 · 18/12/2019 08:08

C&A in Lisbon and other European countries. Stock was similar to Primark.

showmethegin · 18/12/2019 08:40

Ahhh woolies! Remember queuing up with my mam before school to get the new Spice Girls album on tape! 😂

AlaskaElfForGin · 18/12/2019 08:51

@Ginfordinner I really hope that you don't think that's why I started this thread? It's the opposite.

I miss BHS for its swimwear, tights, bedding and lighting

vampirethriller · 18/12/2019 08:57

La Senza
Bay Trading
Past Times was lovely

bellinisurge · 18/12/2019 08:58

Woolies. You can tell which shops were a Woolies in towns all over England.

Ginfordinner · 18/12/2019 09:01

No I don't, not at all @AlaskaElfForGin. But there are countless other threads where posters have said that they were glad that a particular retailer has closed down. It's so sad that our high streets are becoming full of struggling shops interspaced with empty units.

Our roads are becoming clogged up with delivery vans, council recycling centres are groaning under the weight of cardboard boxes, posters often complain on here about accepting their neighbours deliveries and our high streets are becoming full of cafes beauty salons and nail bars or other services that simply cannot be done online.

I still go shopping, I support local businesses, and only buy online if I can't buy from a real shop.

ImportantWater · 18/12/2019 09:05

I was going to say that as well creamcheeseandlox - Wilkos is Woolies without the music counter or clothes. We used to get all the kids babygrows from Woolies.
I miss Past Times, and also Athena, although I don’t know what I would buy there nowadays! I didn’t know Neal St East wasn’t there anymore - I was in Covent Garden last week and had been going to go but ran out of time, obviously that would have been a wasted trip anyway.

fedup21 · 18/12/2019 09:11

Woolies. You can tell which shops were a Woolies in towns all over England.

What’s the distinguishing features?
