Calling all Italians

I'm going on a second date with an english guy who's parents are Italian. He wants to cook me proper italian food and I want to bring a proper italian wine or food type gift. I don't want to get anything tacky. Any suggestions? If it helps the family are from the french/italian border. Xxx

There's lots of nice Italian Christmas food about at the moment, panettone and pandoro are pretty classic, or I often see baci perugina in tk maxx (brand of chocolates)

Wine wise my favourite is nero d'avola (strong red, from the South though I think)
I also really like Asti spumante/martini but that is more retro/old fashioned as opposed to 'impress new people'!

Don't get Asti, please. 🤣

My family are Italian, I doubt he'd expect anything but a panettone would be a nice gift as the pp suggested. A nice Italian wine, maybe a frascati or anything uou can see in your price range, would be fine.

Was going to suggest a Frascati. Get a decent (not too cheap!) one.

Yes, definetly don't get them Asti - I think it is like Italian peoples version of a snowball/advocaat or that really pink wine that teenagers like....but I still like it every Christmas!
