How do I make these lights look nice???? Pic attached!

Is anyone good with interiors?

I bought these lights for in the garden thinking they were solar powered but they are not. They are for indoor or outdoor use so I would like to make use of them in our house. I had the idea to hang them behind the wall our TV is against in our bedroom but they just don’t look right to me.

Can anyone suggest something that might work? Thanks

I think they're a bit black and clunky for there. Would they work better in your kitchen?

HelpMePleaseee · 17/12/2019 21:35

Oh, so you don’t think I can make them work on that wall? I’m so useless with this sort of thing 👎🏻

I agree, I personally don't think they work

The draping makes them look like a giant illuminated lorgnette, could imagine it on a Dame Edna special as a backdrop....
You need the lights to be the bit that shows, rather than the cable up behind the tv I think. Then inned in the top corner and maybe pinned to the top of your door in a curve if it is long enough?

Lololololola · 17/12/2019 21:41

Pinned in, obv...

Yes in the kitchen on the top of your wall mounted cupboards at the edge. I’ve put some there this year and it looks great.

TheCrowFromBelow · 17/12/2019 21:42

They might work if you shape them into a tree or star.as the wire is quite visible.it would work as a feature.
Otherwise they need to be draped around something, so the wire is not as prominent

TrickyKid · 17/12/2019 21:42

I have similar but have them hanging over pictures and not hanging symmetrically. I think your room looks too bare. Not my house in the pictures but the same sort of look.

Just get a lamp for that corner. That string of lights do not work at all, sorry.

mineofuselessinformation · 17/12/2019 21:44

Stick them around the back of the tv.
You'll get the reflected light from them without seeing the wires.

Lantern19 · 17/12/2019 21:47

Sorry but they're dreadful

HelpMePleaseee · 17/12/2019 21:49

My gut feeling was that they wouldn’t work so we will just take them down. I think they would have been nice in the garden in the place we bought them for and I’ve just been optimistically trying to find a use for them.

Also, I want to explain that they were never going to be hung draped like that. I just wound them over so I could take a picture of them without having either me or my DH in the picture holding them. Lol.

I think they're a tad ugly indoors. You could try the star shape for Xmas?

MarianaMoatedGrange · 17/12/2019 22:11

What the actual fuck with the nn OP?

Gin

Can you not put them outside with an extension cord? Or is there not plug access?

HelpMePleaseee · 18/12/2019 07:18

There’s no plug access unfortunately.

The black cable is too dominant against a white wall. Also it won’t be pleasant when watching the TV. The cable would be less in your face hanging vertically or over a window frame or picture frame.

Do you have wooden window frames? You only need a tiny drilled hole to feed the cable outside to the garden.

LazyDaisey · 18/12/2019 07:48

If you can throw money money at it, I’d buy a white/silver Christmas garland in the sales and cover up the black “string” bit. We have those and it’s a heavy-duty type for outdoors really, which is why it looks so wrong in small indoor space.

I’d also get a big floral wire wreath and fasten the whole thing into a wreath.

Or if you don’t want to spend more money, maybe use it to display kids’ artwork (or any artwork at least a4 in size for the right scale) .. anything you can do to disguise the black bit

I have these outside. I think they're best there. Can you return them for ones better suited to indoor decorating?

HelpMePleaseee · 18/12/2019 07:55

We do have a plug inside near the area the lights would be outside but we’d have to open the window to bring the cable in to plug them in. I’m guessing that wouldn’t look great.
