12 yr old toe

My 12 year old has a very swollen and bruised toe.

It started as a bruise under the toenail on saturday but now the whole toe is bruised. She didn't knock or bang it. It is painful to walk on.

I rang to get a docs appt but the first is the 6th Jan. We go on away on holiday in Thursday night and I am a bit worried given the unexplained start.

I don't want to clog up A&e with it but don't want to risk it getting worse whilst away.

could you go and see a pharmacist? they might be able to give you an idea of what is wrong with it and whether to go to a&e or not x

Thanks. I was thinking of that as I have tried calling NHS 24 but given up after many attempts.

Does she run at all? As in jogging. She might have a stress fracture - that's how one of mine started although the bruise was further back on my toe not in the nail. Good luck with the pharmacist!

Went to a&e.bthey put a hole in it to allow blood out. Dd hollered!

Don't know how it happened but whole toe is now bruised and bandaged.

Are her shoes too small? My ds had something which sounded similar on both big toes when his rugby boots were too small. In the end, the nails fell off and new ones grew, but they were very grim for a while.

Glad it’s sorted now, hope dd manages to enjoy your holiday and isn’t in too much pain.
