If you could have anything other than traditional Christmas dinner

What would you have?

I'm leaning a bit towards suggesting we get an Indian takeaway the day before to heat up for Xmas day.

Last year we did our big xmas meal on xmas eve so we could relax on xmas day. We all just ate our favourite meals - DD and I shared a huge cheeseboard with crackers and pate and lots of chutneys.

CupCupGoose · 16/12/2019 16:26

Steak and chips

OlaEliza · 16/12/2019 16:26

We already decided we need cheese and biscuits.

Chinese takeaway 🥡

caperplips · 16/12/2019 16:28

If it was just me and dh we would have crab to start with champagne , fillet steak with potato gratin and pepper sauce with a Mas De Bressade red to drink, sherry trifle for dessert

But with teen dd we always make the traditional christmas dinner as I want her to have those memories of growing up. Also I do love christmas dinner.

But when she leaves home we will do things differently if she chooses not to come home every year

lifeisgoodagain · 16/12/2019 16:28

Personally I would have rib of beef or goose if I could choose - in reality I am having boring turkey because that's what mum and dad want

kitk · 16/12/2019 16:28

Definitely an Indian takeaway- they taste even better reheated!

Buscake · 16/12/2019 16:29

Indian takeaway or something decadent like a seafood platter

lifeisgoodagain · 16/12/2019 16:29

Next year I'm doing what I want, not inviting anyone!

startalovetrain · 16/12/2019 16:30

We're having a curry on Xmas day. Much cheaper then the traditional Xmas Dinner, can't wait!

Russell19 · 16/12/2019 16:30

Curry!

PloddingPandaMum · 16/12/2019 16:35

Steak and mashed potatoes with peppercorn sauce or a Deliveroo burrito blow out. Little hot hugs in a wrap of foil Grin

I had Xmas day on my own last year and it was bliss. I just grazed on cheese and pate if memory serves...

HeyPizza · 16/12/2019 16:37

How many restaurants are actually open on Christmas Day? And takeaways? I've never eaten out so have no idea Hmm

Hoppinggreen · 16/12/2019 16:37

We’re going out for a curry

user1497207191 · 16/12/2019 16:38

Fish n Chips but sadly the chip shops will be closed so we'll have to wait a couple of days!

TeapotCollection · 16/12/2019 16:39

We’re having M&S party food 😋

MotherHeggy · 16/12/2019 16:39

Fish and chips from the chippy down the road

Bickles · 16/12/2019 16:44

I’d have a curry too. Every year I want to do an Indian style roast leg of lamb with lots of sides but DH won’t let me.

BeyondFlubeInclusionaryRF · 16/12/2019 16:47

Chinese for us, ordered the day before (I swear they used to actually be open on Xmas day?)

BrokenWing · 16/12/2019 17:04

For the first time ever we are not having turkey for Xmas dinner.

We are having a big turkey dinner for 16 between Xmas and new Year, but on Xmas day we are at home, just me dh and teenage ds (which is another first) having home made beef wellington (never made it before so should be interesting!!!)

DeadButDelicious · 16/12/2019 17:15

My parents are doing steak (fillet for me, yum yum!) which we'll have for lunch and the in-laws are doing the traditional turkey dinner, which we'll have for tea. Best of both worlds! 😂

charm8ed · 16/12/2019 17:47

I’d have all the Boxing Day food, picky bits, a gammon and lovely chutneys.

Likethebattle · 16/12/2019 17:50

We got a Chinese last year. Check your curry place it may be open on Christmas Day.

Redshoeblueshoe · 16/12/2019 17:50

Our local Indian restaurant is open all day on Christmas day. One year I had pizza

Bombaybunty · 16/12/2019 17:52

Rib of beef. Sadly MIL is coming and only eats beef it's been cremated. I refuse to do that to a beautiful rib joint!
