If you could have anything other than traditional Christmas dinner

What would you have?

I'm leaning a bit towards suggesting we get an Indian takeaway the day before to heat up for Xmas day.

KFC bucket

twolungs · 16/12/2019 18:00

We are going out for Xmas lunch on Xmas eve. It's the same menu but half the price!

I love the Indian takeaway idea! I will either have that or go for salmon fillet, they are good value at this time of year and you can freeze what's left. I'd probably make dessert a big treat - although I won't as I am on a diet, in a parallel world I'd have some kind of meringue log, not a big fan of christmas pudding.

Homemade lasagne with homemade chips, chicken goujons, lovely dips, mozzarella sticks, garlic mushrooms and salad

turkeyontheplate · 16/12/2019 18:02

...and cheesy garlic bread

iklboodolphrednosedreindeer · 16/12/2019 18:03

We're going out for a curry. We do it every year. Not arsed about sandwiches / leftovers so it's great for us.

AuntieMarys · 16/12/2019 18:05

We are having Lebanese this year

Silvergreen · 16/12/2019 18:06

The steak I had in Portugal last September 😂 that exact one!

CaptainPovey · 16/12/2019 18:08

We are having fillet steak with fondant potatoes - I make a roast dinner almost every Sunday.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 16/12/2019 18:09

We did a big slab of teriyaki pork with noodles one year and a sundae bar for pudding. Now we have a 5yo DD who is obsessed with roast dinner so we're doing roast pork with crackling with all the normal Xmas dinner trimmings.

Don't like turkey enough to bother, and we'll get that at family houses over the Xmas period anyway.

Mumthedogsbeensick · 16/12/2019 18:09

Egg chips and peas with sliced white bread and butter and a mug of Yorkshire tea to wash it all down!

Two Christmas dinners! And a curry. Xmas Grin

Rosere · 16/12/2019 18:14

Can't stand turkey myself. I'd be having beef and a bucket of gravy if I was left to choose the meat 😂

VenusClapTrap · 16/12/2019 18:33

We’ve ordered a massive seafood extravaganza from the local fishmonger. Pick it up Christmas Eve, serve on ice on Christmas Day. Lobster, dressed crab, oysters, crayfish, prawns, mussels & more. With a bit of salad.

On Boxing Day we’re having roast lamb and all the traditional Christmas veg.

DoctorTwo · 16/12/2019 18:35

I will either go to the Indian takeaway to get a Lamb Pathia on Xmas Eve and have that over roast potatoes with broccoli or get a small leg of lamb from the butcher and have all the trimmings with it.

chillychicken · 16/12/2019 18:38

We used to have steak with blue cheese sauce & skinny fries on Christmas Day when it was just the two of us.

OlaEliza · 16/12/2019 19:01

I'm torn between the first Christmas dinner I've ever cooked, or the lazy option 😂

We're having lasagne on christmas eve and salmon with dauphinoise potatoes on Christmas day. Cant wait!

MairzyDoats · 16/12/2019 23:32

Crusty bread, cold salty butter, smoked salmon, glass of champagne. Or a baked camembert studded with cloves of garlic and rosemary, with crusty bread. Prawns cooked in garlic butter.

nancy75 · 16/12/2019 23:35

We’re having beef wellington (made by my dad)
We never have Turkey as it gives my Dad gout & then he can’t walk for a week!

Lessstressedhemum · 16/12/2019 23:39

My kids usually want chicken curry on Christmas Day and lasagne on boxing Day.

When they were small, we used to do a big party food buffet that they could just pick at all day. So much less stress than cooking a dinner that no one eats anyway.

FruityWidow · 17/12/2019 00:54

Moussaka, cooked ahead of time and chilled or frozen. Always tastes better after a few days.

CareOfPunts · 17/12/2019 00:58

A curry

MsChatterbox · 17/12/2019 01:24

I'm doing a buffet this year. Cheese Crackers, party food etc

SecretWitch · 17/12/2019 01:31

We have made a change to our usual routine. Christmas Eve will be our big meal. We are having standing rib roast, jackets and salad. Our dessert will be birthday cake as it is my daughter’s birthday.

We pre ordered a Chinese for Christmas Day lunch.
