So new to Xbox, have set it up but how do I create a second ‘account’ so second dc can log in without it affecting other dc?! Obviously only want the account I set up but surely you can have two diff log ins? Dc seem to think you have to have actual separate accounts which I don’t want to do?

I don't think you can have more than one log in to an account - they'd need separate accounts, or to share. It may be a lot cheaper if they share if you plan on getting Live...

But I haven't set an Xbox up for kids in ages so I could be wrong.

ActualHornist · 16/12/2019 10:03

They’ll need different logins.

I’m a bit confused though - can you clarify?

Is the first child over the age of 13? (I think it’s 13 when they can start ‘owning’ their own content)

Do you have more than one Xbox?

Are you hoping they can play together on separate xboxes or are you more hoping they can use the same Live account?

Wonderingwhyme · 16/12/2019 13:35

So one Xbox between them. The account is in my name. They have said they need their own log ins due to XP, and saving stuff etc and ds2 won’t share with ds1 as ds1 ends up logging in with ds2 friends.... which I see the problem as they don’t share friends?

They haven’t yet played together on it, they both play with online friends. Eldest is 13. I only want one account so I can keep an eye on it as I have the app and parental settings on it. So we have a switch and I have the account and they both have their own log ins that they click on to start? We need that?

OP...my son can answer, but he’s on his way out the door right now.

If you haven’t got an answer by 6pm, come back & I’ll get a step-by-step explanation from DS.

It’s do-able (he has 2 accounts) but quite complicated apparently.

Wonderingwhyme · 16/12/2019 13:44

Thanks I appreciate that otherwise not sure what I will do as they are adamant they can’t share! I’m really bad with technology and only knew what I was doing setting it up was because of help from lovely posters on here!

I play on my husbands Xbox, and to have my own profile I needed to set up my own Xbox account with email address, which I can then log into on his Xbox. You could set up a couple of accounts just for that purpose, they can have separate password to the Xbox so they kids can’t access them.

slothbyday · 16/12/2019 13:46

We have two accounts and so long as one is the master account (ie any purchases are through that) they both work with the one subscription.

Let me come back to you with how! I can't remember

anxioussue · 16/12/2019 13:48

They need their own log in as they get xp for games and unlock stuff

Wonderingwhyme · 16/12/2019 13:51

Yes that’s my question anxious, how do I make 2 log ins?

Try the last question here. I think you need two accounts.

slothbyday · 16/12/2019 17:15

Ok, I'm doing this from memory from 12 months ago!

mine each have a linked account within my Microsoft account. And I vaguely remember this being part of it. I set this up on the Microsoft webpage.

I'm fairly sure that there is then a section in settings for adding accounts on the Xbox too where you can log them in, set up codes etc and then when you open it up it will show. Then when you switch it on you choose your account or can switch between accounts from the main page on the Xbox.

It's important that any purchases go through your account and not theirs as they can access the games through your account if they are registered as family members.

Tbh though, give the kids the controller - they'll soon work it out Grin

slothbyday · 16/12/2019 17:16

Ps - this is from a woolly memory so don't quote me on the nuances and specific details! I may have mis remembered how we did it

TheCrowFromBelow · 16/12/2019 17:34

Google family set up for xbox and you get the proper instructuons but basically: you set up an account as the parent
They also have a linked account each as children and you can set time limits, access levels etc by account.
You can also set payment options
You will need at least one xbox gold account if they are going online, but the holder can make that xbox their "home" console which means all.games and internet access are available to all users

TheCrowFromBelow · 16/12/2019 17:35

They will need an outlook account to get their own account
It was a PITA from memory

Aquamarine1029 · 16/12/2019 17:42

Each player needs their own account to create a player profile. You can set up parental controls on each of their accounts if you want to. For example, you can allow them to play multiplayer but not hear the banter going on between other players.

ChestnutSmoothie · 16/12/2019 18:35

DS says...

Log in to Xbox with your account
Go to “Sign in”
Further down the list it says “+ Add New” and follow the instructions. The new account will need a different email address.

Not that complicated...don’t know why he couldn’t have told me that before!

SouthWestmom · 16/12/2019 18:39

Found it really stressful - the child restrictions are good for little ones but very restrictive and blanket for older ones.

ActualHornist · 16/12/2019 19:46

They will need their own account - they will have the same on their Switch just admin is different.

Once you’ve set them up they’re both under your control and you can relax for older child if necessary. Your Gold will work for both.

ActualHornist · 16/12/2019 19:47

I get weekly emails telling me how long they’ve spent on each thing, for example. You can also set time limits - ours is they can’t play past 10pm which is daft as they go to bed at 8pm!
