Hi there,
I'm really struggling at the moment with my 5yr old. He is really acting out at home he won't listen and when you put him on the step for not listening you get huge melt downs and tantrums he will even hit out at me sometimes.i sit down with him and talk to him briefly to make sure he understands why he was there but within minutes his not listening and throwing tantrums and attitude around again. He is also doing it at school he will refuse to do certain lessons or tasks and when again but to the side to cool off he will hit out or melt down. The school are at their wits end with it and now keep excluding Jim. Any advice ???

I'm sorry to hear that. This is a stage of development- Is DS in reception? New term/ environment?
Does he get tired easily-if tantrums happen towards the end of the day?

Keep a log of specific days/ times and events that happen.Changes in routine can be the factor here. Also anxiety is very common and another reason to act out.

With Christmas coming up could be overwhelming as well as any changes at home.

Be consistent, keep boundaries and give warnings before the step. Action= consequences.

Good luck hope it passes soon

Hi constance,
Year 1 now but reception was a huge struggle for him and the school had him on a psp for nearly the whole year. He is constantly missing out on school now due to being excluded because his hit a teacher. He sleeps well so I can't see it being tiredness but will keep it in mind.

I hope this passes I am sticking to action then consequence his just so reactive to any instructions at the moment that I feel his on time out all day .....it's getting me down now
