Management role and reduced hours/flexible working. Possible?

I've now progressed to the top of my staff band at work and the next natural step for me is into a middle management role.

I've not applied for one of the vacancies at this level yet (large company), partly because I am contracted for 30 hours per week and partly because the right role hasn't come up. Enjoying my work is so important to me, along with the flexibility I have - with my current hours I have one full day off per week plus I finish in time for school pick up.

A role has just been advertised that is right up my street. I've applied. I may not get an interview. I may have an interview and not be successful. I might be successful. I'll obviously have to see how that goes in the next few weeks but I haven't mentioned the 30 hours on my application yet. I'll cross that bridge as and when we get to it.

But I'd be keen to hear of anyone who holds a junior/middle management role and works reduced hours successfully?

I am super, super organised and work like a Trojan so my output is very high in the hours I do. I work a few extra hours happily when needed from time to time but try not to make it a regular thing.

But am I silly to think this work pattern would not be sustainable in a management role? Does anyone do it successfully?
