When you plug something into an extension socket, do you do it with the socket switched on? I have one with about 5 plug sockets on it, so don't necessarily want to turn it off if using something else at the same time. I sometimes get a blue spark when plugging in. Told you it was daft

Five is a lot. It sounds like you may be overloading your socket. Is it 13 amps? If so, the five things must add up to less than 13.
