Reminds me of being a billy no mates but thus year I have been invited out. Usually have no money or a sitter but my Son is coming too!

Because I spend months looking forward to the Christmas break from work. new years means it's all over and I'm facing another long year Sad

TopBitchoftheWitches · 31/12/2019 20:39

Cannot stand it. Ex DH always made a huge deal about it but I always went to bed at normal time. What pissed me off the most was the midnight calls from his family. We had young babies and kids at the time. Ridiculous behaviour.

ChipInTheSugar · 31/12/2019 20:42

No friends 🤷‍♀️

npowerarebastards · 31/12/2019 20:50

I don't care about it being a new year, still same old shite. Also it means Christmas is properly over.

I'm turning forty in 2020 - blurgh

TheGinGenie · 31/12/2019 20:55

Because it reminds me that I'm alone and everyone is celebrating with family and partners and I don't have these things. I pretend I don't care but I do.

ispyachocolatepie · 31/12/2019 21:00

Thanks GinGenie wishing you a happy and health new year from one stranger to another xx

ALongHardWinter · 31/12/2019 21:33

Everywhere is packed solid, pubs charging just to go in (as if they didn't charge enough for their drinks anyway) and all the enforced jollity gets right up my nose. And I get fed up with people keep saying 'Happy new year' right up until the end of the second week of January!

colouringinpro · 31/12/2019 21:39

chip, gin FlowersGin

ManonBlackbeak · 31/12/2019 21:39

I just don't see the point in it. It always makes me feel so miserable and sad.

ManonBlackbeak · 31/12/2019 21:45

Jools Holland can stick his big band up his backside.

Hahahah! Thats one of the funniest things Ive read on here in ages!

'Hootenany' is shit, Ive no idea why so many people seem to like it. What even is a 'hootenany' anyway?

VioletCharlotte · 31/12/2019 21:47

I don't dislike NYE, I just don't really like going out to places that are very busy and full of drunk people. Then there's the having to pay for tickets to get in somewhere, double time for taxis home, etc. It's a no from me. After years of 'making the effort' to celebrate and not really enjoying myself, I now stay in with my dog.

Fairydust00999 · 31/12/2019 21:51

Too much hype!
And always an anticlimax!

My best new year was when me and OH drove 5 hours to Devon, was on beach with hot choc at midnight and lucky enough to see fire works!

We are party people or drinkers either.

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/12/2019 21:55

I hate the enforced fun too.

Plus the measurement of time is a man made construct. New year could be any day couldn’t it?.

ODFOkaren · 31/12/2019 23:19

I dread all the new year bollocks.

I still wake up with the same problems on January 1st and every year brings a set of new and worse ones.

ODFOkaren · 31/12/2019 23:20

@colouringinproFlowers I’ve been through the mill too over the past ten years. Sometimes I don’t know how I’m still here.

HearMeSnore · 01/01/2020 00:19

npowerarebastards you hit the nail on the head. It signals the end of the festive period. Now there's nothing much left to do but put the decorations back in the loft, iron school uniforms and get ready to go back to work.

Depressing, overhyped and anti-climactic.

colouringinpro · 01/01/2020 00:21

thanks @ODFOkaren I really appreciate it. I know exactly what you mean. Not quite sure how to do another year tbh.

NaToth · 01/01/2020 00:31

Because I got dumped, horribly, on New Year's Eve 1997 in a Chinese restaurant in Royal Leamington Spa.

catlady3 · 01/01/2020 00:35

Fireworks.

Devonishome1 · 01/01/2020 00:37

Happy new year! I’m glad it’s over!!!!!

ShoppingBasket · 01/01/2020 00:39

Because people looking back on their year/decade and feel like they haven't done anything significant and makes them feel like shit. It doesn't bother me what others have done or going to do but it does bring others down.

It also doesn't take the strike of midnight to become a better person/lose weight or whatever other resolution you can add.

Queues, jam packed places. No thanks, give me my pyjamas and a cup of tea.

Yikes, who knew I felt so strongly about New Years 😂
This is the first year in a long time I've rang in the New Year but only because my 12 year old wanted to stay up, I had planned on being in bed at 10pm tonight 🥴

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 01/01/2020 07:26

Over-hyped, over-priced and overcrowded if you go out, and so often a let down.

I can’t remember positively loving it since I was about 14 and going to a party where a boy I fancied like mad might just give me a kiss at midnight.

VeraPamil · 01/01/2020 09:16

To be honest I struggle to stay up after 9pm never mind midnight. I like New Years Day though, we have a special family meal and spend the day together.

ForalltheSaints · 01/01/2020 10:00

It may be the end of the calendar year, but it is not really the end of anything else or start of something new. Christmas continues until January 6th, it's nowhere near the end of winter or start of spring, the days have not been getting longer for very long.

The start of a new school year is probably more significant for parents and children in terms of something new.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 01/01/2020 10:49

I think New Year should go back to being the Spring Equinox. Lambs, sunshine, hope etc. Not a dark freezing midnight splattered with vomit and the knowledge that your failures are still with you.
