New eBay rule, no neg feedback allowed within a week.

I've got my daughters new phone cases for Xmas. Found a seller on eBay who looked like they could be just the job and ordered. They came today.
They are SHOCKING. The picture doesn't even convey what a shit show they are, quality wise. They are supposed to be glitter cases but what they are is a paper PHOTOCOPY of glitter that is then laminated into the case. I know, right!?

The seller has thousands of feedback, at ninety odd percent but when you look, they actually have a lot of bad feedback regarding quality.

So I tried to leave neg feedback. And got this pop up.

What's that all about?

I presume it's to encourage buyers to contact sellers first to resolve issues? They might accept a return and refund you.

Fucck · 13/12/2019 17:42

This is the cases, they don't look too bad here and I can't get a good shot. But just imagine what photocopied glitter looks like when printed on bog roll with a twenty year old printer. You're nearly there!

No it clearly states no returns under any circumstances because they are personalised!

Of course you can return if they are shit and not as described.
Open a case

This is their listing photo, bit of a discrepancy - no? 😭

I don't think this is new.

"A spokesman for eBay said: "Power Sellers have built up a track-record of sales of over 100 items and been selling on eBay for over a year, so they have seven days to put right customer complaints before negative feedback can be left."

www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/11384248/eBay-want-to-leave-negative-feedback-You-cant-if-its-a-Power-Seller.html (article from 2015).

lemonjumper · 13/12/2019 17:46

And, yes, you can definitely return it if it's not as described. It doesn't matter that it's personalised if the product is faulty / not as described..

Fucck · 13/12/2019 17:48

Yeah, I'm going to go for a refund. I just can't chuck a tenner in for this utter chancery! On principle.

This happened to me but it had gone over 7 days. I'd bought a large, fairly expensive item that arrived faulty. Seller messed me about not answering emails and then promising to send another that never arrived. Had to open a case to get a refund. It never did let me leave negative feedback and I gave up in the end.

Fucck · 13/12/2019 18:02

I used to love eBay but it seems recently that at least every other transaction comes with a myriad of different problems.
I've had attempted scams (that I luckily saw straight through) when I've tried to sell, umpteen parcels go missing when I've bought. It's not a carefree experience anymore.

This isn’t new, content the seller directly with a message and they will most likely sort it for you. If not, then leave negative feedback to and open a case with eBay and they will definitely sort it.
I used to work for a company that sold on eBay and it was so irritating when customers just leave negative feedback without actually trying to resolve the problem. Give the seller a chance to sort it out first.

thecalmorchid · 13/12/2019 18:11

The right to leave feedback is removed if you open a case.

I'd open a case right now. State it did not match description. Say why. Ask for a refund.

Then, do nothing, do not enter into debate with seller, do not send it back yet. They will hope you do so you have to pay your own return postage.

7 days later. eBay will send you an automated fully paid postal label charged to the seller. Return the item and log the tracking number. You will get a full refund.

It's automated, and the item is not as described. Id be cross too.

Buy another one from elsewhere now so it comes in time for Christmas.

Fucck · 13/12/2019 18:17

Well in my defence, there's nothing to 'sort out'

Believe me, nobody who values their customers could churn out such shite. You honestly can't look at them and think "that's a job well done" you can even see those shady lines that shitty printers leave when they're going down on ink or on their last legs. It honestly beggars belief how they've got any positive feedback!

OP posts:
thecalmorchid · 13/12/2019 18:17

I should add, opening a case gives the seller the opportunity to fix the issue.

They may just decide to refund you and not have the items posted back.

I've had lots of cheeky sellers try it on. I purchase 1000's of things through eBay over the years.

The vast majority are decent and will sort it out swiftly.

Fucck · 13/12/2019 18:20

I've started a case, will see what happens but I'm not paying to sort it out so will hold out for the label.

No it's not. Feedback has nothing to do with a buyer opening a case, and any feedback that they leave will not be considered in a , it's not.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 13/12/2019 18:23

”In a complaint”, that last sentence should read!

MyKingdomForBrie · 13/12/2019 18:26

This is the problem with trying to get something on the cheap! It's a tenner, you're not going to get amazing quality. If it's not as described then you should ask for a refund though.

keepingbees · 13/12/2019 18:29

I agree eBay is pretty crap now. I rarely buy anymore as I've had a disproportionate amount of issues with the few things I've bought. Selling is a whole other minefield that I wouldn't even attempt now.

Fucck · 13/12/2019 18:35

I don't know, £10 on a phone case isn't that minor. The case Ive had on my phone for two years, without issues, was about £5 from amazon.

OP posts:
AppleJane · 13/12/2019 19:06

Did the £10 include free delivery?

Fucck · 13/12/2019 19:10

I think it did, yes.

OP posts:
AppleJane · 13/12/2019 19:15

Etsy is good for personalised stuff if you buy a replacement.

thecalmorchid · 13/12/2019 20:54

@JigsawsAreInPieces eBay remove the option to give feedback once a refund is made. The item doesn't appear in your purchases anymore so feedback can't be left.

Im not sure what would happen if you'd already left feedback.
