My 18 year old is incredibly upset- it was his first opportunity to vote and he feel very let down by Corbyn.

orcaaa 😂

I think any young person who uses a phrase like 'unicorn money tree' is not well informed - that is a silly soundbite out of the right wing press and it shows a lack of understanding. Both major parties have promised things that involve overspending and have been poorly costed, but my kids are in favour of the principle of progressive taxation. Brexit will make us all worse off in the short term (see economic predictions passim) so voting for a 'Get Brexit Done' party will definitely lead to everyone being worse off, while we don't definitely know what a Labour government would have led to. And of course the very phrase 'Get Brexit Done' is a red flag to them - like "Make America Great Again', it's a vacuous sound bite. They can see that Brexit will not be 'done' for years.

All these young people who are emigrating - presumably any country they might emigrate to has elections? And one day an election in their new country will produce a result they don't like. What will they do then? Move again?

They will go to Scandinavia. It’s a mountain made of sugar with a peppermint cane on the top.

“ I think any young person who uses a phrase like 'unicorn money tree' is not well informed - that is a silly soundbite out of the right wing press“
Anyone of any age who says that is “not well informed”. And any young person who says it either doesn’t exist or is parroting their parents.

This young woman expresses the reaction of one older teen/young adult to the election result. I think she puts it rather well...

orcaaa · 14/12/2019 18:54

Honestly? I cringed. Or were you being ironic?

AutumnRose1 · 14/12/2019 18:56

I might be a bit squiffy but I can’t tell if Snowjive is posting that ironically or not.

AutumnRose1 · 14/12/2019 18:57

PS for anyone who missed it, she does begin by wishing Johnson a horrible death, as well as slagging off the working class.

So in fairness, her hate is well spread.

orcaaa · 14/12/2019 18:58

But seriously that was embarrassing to watch. That cut glass, ringing accent with the voice going up high at the end and she’s going to train as a doctor but can tell the working class all about how wrong they are and Boris is a cunt ...

Xmas Blush

She plans to CARE people!! 😂

BerwickLad · 14/12/2019 19:06

Sweet mother of Jesus, that is the future?

Ai plin to CAAAAAH.

Keep trying sunshine and you might work out what that means.

AutumnRose1 · 14/12/2019 19:19

@BerwickLad

That confused me for a sec as I’m a north Londoner so hear that as “cow” 😂

That said, also being in a weird north London circle means that I see her very much as a representative labour voter for the posher neighbourhood near my not naice borough.

So actually, I don’t know if the whole thing is satire, if Snowjive posted it for fun or she thought it was real and liked it....

And I thought #notmydoctor was hilarious but it seems it was originally a # for something else. I can’t keep up.

PickUpThePieces · 14/12/2019 19:25

All these young people planning to leave the country because they don’t like the outcome of the election seem to be missing the irony that the many Jewish young people who had actual plans in place to leave the UK, can now stay thanks to the fact we don’t have a Corbyn government.

My DC are relieved because of this.
They would also like to see university campus politics become more open to all points of view where young people might actually listen to other perspectives instead of blindly following the Corbyn agenda.

orcaaa · 14/12/2019 19:27

But to see working class people caring about Boris Johnson ...

In all seriousness, that poor woman might find that follows her around beyond Twitter, and not in a good way.

CanIHaveADrink · 14/12/2019 19:35

My 16yo asked me why in earth people voted for a carbon copy of Trump when they have so many issues with the guy.
Also why people have been voting for a liar hiding in a fridge and a clown.

He has impressed me with his knowledge of what has been happening (from his own research) incl using this website that could tell you what party would represent you the best from their policy.

@CendrillonSings, I have to say I’m still wondering why leavers/conservatives sound like such sore winners. And also why they feel it’s ok to gloat about their victory. If a child of mine had been doing that instead if gong to congratulate the opposite team, they would have been told off big way. Are you not doing the same with your kids? And if so, why do you think it’s ok to do so as an adult??

lljkk · 14/12/2019 19:46

DS voted BxP & was hopping around gloating at 10:30pm on Thursday night.

DD (not sure what she voted, but is a rabid leftie) hasn't mentioned the result at all. She's had a lot of parties to got to.

There's a young guy at work who danced around singing We Are the Champions on Friday morning. He's not exactly my Bud.

RaiseaGlasstoFreedom · 14/12/2019 19:50

He's 18... So still time for him to to broaden his church.

We should all mix with all sorts of people.

I'm not '' Conservative '' nor Labour I have no affiliation to any party. My dc will make friends with all sorts of people.

I'd be concerned if however they only had one '' type ''.

Rather like the old-style Catholic families only hanging out with catholics. We can see where this sort of cultist style narrow behaviour becomes ie the hard core likes of momentum.

Extremes are not good in my view. Being balanced is always better.

Heatherjayne1972 · 14/12/2019 20:14

My sons secondary school had mock elections on Thursday
They looked at the manifestos of all the parties and voted
The school kids overwhelmingly voted labour

ginghambox · 14/12/2019 20:20

Of course they did, not influenced by the "teacher" at all.

pollyputthepastaon · 14/12/2019 20:31

Mine are very relieved the country voted for the best option for a strong economy, and to get brexit done and dusted finally.

AutumnRose1 · 14/12/2019 20:57

I want Snowjive to come back.

Oliversmumsarmy · 14/12/2019 21:00

Snowjive2 I have a late teen dd

The difference is instead of “planning to work” Dd is already at work and has been for the past 2.5 years.

She plans to be a doctor for the NHS!!!

I hope she never has to treat a Tory voting working class patient.
I don’t think they will get any treatment from someone who thinks they should shoot themselves in the face.

orcaaa · 14/12/2019 21:12

In fairness that wasn’t literal. She meant ‘shooting themselves in the foot.’

AutumnRose1 · 14/12/2019 21:23

This conversation is getting funnier.

I’m sure she didn’t mean either literally.
