Would you have voted Labour if they had a different leader?

Ok, I'm sorry for another election thread, but DP and me are discussing tonight's results and whether Brexit or Jeremy Corbyn are why Labour are losing so many seats. I know things are not so simple and of course anti-semitism has been such a huge issue as well, but I am just interested in whether if JC had been replaced by someone else if it would have made a difference.

He starts look fuzzy.

Starts to look fuzzy?
I think he's been pixilated round the edge since before he was a leader.

I realised the other day who he reminds me of: Alistair Sims playing the St Trinian's headmistress. There's a scene where the headmistress walks in to a group of girls who are trying to torture information out of another. She asks a question and then says "carry on girls" and leaves them to it.
The thing is she knows the only way to have any semblance of control at the school is by ignoring the vocal elements who in turn know that means they can effectively do what they want.
That's his leadership.

Waspnest · 13/12/2019 12:13

No. I think the problems go a lot deeper than JC.

lottiegarbanzo · 13/12/2019 12:15

Of course it would OP. JC and Momentum made Labour unelectable. Obviously!

There would have needed to be more credible policies and a more centrist leader tbh. I knew this was how the election was going to go because Momentum, Corbyn and McDonnell haven't been listening for many years. How he was elected as leader, twice, is beyond me.

SeaWitchly · 13/12/2019 12:45

I would probably have voted for Labour if they had a different leader... but I absolutely did vote for Labour because Corbyn was their leader.
I think he would have made a wonderful. compassionate Prime Minister but now we are confined to another 5 years of Tory rule Sad

NewBeginnings321 · 13/12/2019 12:48

Yes, so would my husband. Bring David Milliband back!

underneaththeash · 13/12/2019 12:51

I'm a swing voter and we are quite well off financially. I'd be happy to vote labour if their leader was centre left (and dropped the ridiculous notion of shutting down private schools, re-nationalising everything and kicked out all the anti-semites).

We can afford to pay more in tax and I'd be happy to and to have that spent on services. If JC had got, everyone would be paying more tax, but the damage to the economy would have been significant and consequently there would be less money.

Election2019 · 13/12/2019 12:59

I’m a swing voter (although I am a member of the Labour Party). I voted Tory to keep Corbyn and the Momentum out.

yellowallpaper · 13/12/2019 14:05

Let's just hope the parliamentary Labour Party has more clout and can kick momentum out along with Corbyn and McDonald. I doubt it though as there isn't a flicker of self doubt re their pseudo Marxist line (according to lord Blunkett)

Whattodoabout · 13/12/2019 15:00

I voted for them regardless and I’m a fan of Corbyn but even I can see he isn’t a winning opposition. Reason being we’re traditionally quite a right wing country, Labour only historically win under a centrist leader.

I’d like to see Yvette Cooper or Emily Thornberry as the next leader personally.

ChristmasSpirtsOnTheRocksPleas · 13/12/2019 15:02

I wouldn’t have voted for them based on their manifesto. But if they had a palatable manifesto I might have voted for them if they had a palatable leader.

sue51 · 13/12/2019 15:06

It all went wrong a few years back when the wrong Milliband was elected leader. I would like to see Emily Thornbury or keir Starmer in charge.

JoyceJames · 13/12/2019 15:20

@Whattodoabout he didn't put up much opposition, except at election time. He said bugger all.
