...can I help choose the next leader? Any other things I need to know?

@willowstar @TattiePants I've also only stayed a member hoping that Corbyn would leave and I could have a say in his replacement

Sooverthemill · 13/12/2019 13:29

There will be a date by which members needed to have joined in order to be eligible to vote in leadership contest. Last time it was 12 January for vote on 12 September but they introduced an absurd new category of registered supporter who could pay £25 and vote anyway ( during a specific time slot). Bloody stupid and insulting to new full members. That's how the momentum swung it. I hope it's better organised this time.

AlunWynsKnee · 13/12/2019 13:33

I'm trying to decide whether to rejoin. I outed myself as a GC Feminist when I resigned but I don't think my CLP chair had any idea what I was on about.

Just joined. Had loads of out of date info on the join page, and didn't give ask for my email. Was dearer than I thought it would be but hey ho, money where mouth is and all that!

I would but i already know most of my local Labour activists and councillors and most of them are vile, power hungry arseholes. They've put me off the party even before Momentum chipped in.

Sooverthemill · 14/12/2019 09:43

@RuffleCrow I know the feeling but unless people like you join, those will be the people that run it and ruin it for everyone else. The Party needs to be more representative rather than dominated by the former Militant members and SWP that joined to get Corbyn elected, so the 'new' Momentum party within a party.

ForalltheSaints · 14/12/2019 11:31

OP, why would you want to join?

Sooverthemill · 14/12/2019 12:17

@Forallthe saints why shouldn't she?

jo10000 · 14/12/2019 16:51

I don' t want to join to be active with rallies etc but do want a leader I can respect. At the moment this feels the only thing I can do. It may not have any impact but I need to try.

@jo10000 most political activism isn't about going on marches and demonstrations. It's about day to day finding out what local people want, about shaping local views, about helping to shape policies, and helping to choose who represents you

jo10000 · 14/12/2019 18:16

Just received an invite to their Christmas social too!

Go for it! I’m re-joining for this reason.

jo10000 · 20/01/2020 19:08

Just received invite to vote for leader in constituency meeting. Re the following, does that mean I vote for each candidate in order 1-5 or just my top 1 and 2 please? I'm going out tonight but will check back later. Thanks in advance...

For the Leader and Deputy Leader nomination there will be a preferential ballot. Each member must number the candidate they wish to nominate in order of preference. If no candidate has reached the 50% threshold after the first round then the candidate with the lowest number of 1st preference votes will be eliminated and their 2nd preferences distributed among the other candidates until someone has over 50% of the votes cast.
