Help! Pain and spotting at 5 weeks :(

Hi all!

I’ve found out I am 1st time pregnant last week, putting me at 5 weeks. It’s been a rollercoaster ride with emotions surrounding this but that’s for another time!

Early this morning (5amish). I was awoken by cramps, I wouldn’t say severe, but enough to wake me! These have continued all day and remain fairly strong, not agonising, but uncomfortable to say the least.

Not only that, but I’ve been bleeding also. Mainly when I wipe. It varies from stringy discharge mixed with blood. To a few spots of red blood. It doesn’t appear to be a lot at this stage, and mainly appears to be mixed with mucus.

I’ve rang the doctor and have a scan Saturday - but that seems forever away. Am I right to panic and think miscarriage or is this ‘normal’?
As I said I’ve never been pregnant and have no idea what to expect so please be gentle with me!

Firstly, Thanks to you, it's a scary time.
Some cramping and light spotting in early pregnancy is totally normal. I had this with my first and transpired all was fine when they scanned me. It's only natural you're worried though, I was an absolute mess, so don't be hard on yourself. Are you working tomorrow or able to take the day off to try to keep yourself busy whilst you wait for Saturday to come? (Easier said than done, I know)

🍀🍀🍀 My fingers are crossed for you.

Thank you so much for such a quick response!!
I keep googling (it’s the devil I know) and some tell me it’s normal and some tell me the worst. Your certainly right that beating myself up about it won’t help but it’s so hard not to panic!
I’m at work tomorrow which should help distract me but I’m suppose to be working now so we all know how well that’s going!!

Thank you, your so kind! Halo

Your mind will be all about your little one until you have the scan, and that's totally normal!
I'm always being told off for googling baby related things (currently pregnant again), and I have to admit, DH is right 🙈 because it can just cast such a negative picture.
If the pain or bleeding gets worse, make sure you ring Dr, out of hours or 111, or your early pregnancy unit if you know their contact details. Don't wait because you've got Saturday planned, they'll understand how you're feeling and may be able to fast track things for you. Really hoping all is ok
