Wantto buy one for teenage son who currently goes about house wrapped in a big fleece blanket. However, I am wondering if you can wear them back to front ie with cowly bit at back, so more like a giant cardigan/cloak? I can't find one in an actual shop to look at them.

i have one. yes you can wear it like a cloak but wouldn't a dressing gown make more sense then? as that will have a rope to do it up?!

Damntheman · 12/12/2019 09:59

I've got one although admittedly I don't use it that much. You could wear it like a cloak, but as PP said, why not just get a dressing gown then? Slankets are best for when you're in a blanket nest on the sofa but you need your arms out for phone/laptop/knitting/gaming.

If you use "snuggle hoody" as a search term in Amazon, does one of those look ok?

TwigTheWonderKid · 12/12/2019 17:11

He's specifically asked for a blanket rather than dressing gown and I kind of get that, there' smore fabric in a blanket, so they are more snuggly, aren't they? amazon.co.uk/Thnapple-Slothy-Wearable-Hooded-Blanket/dp/B07HHJRYJ6/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=sloth+blanket&qid=1576170496&sr=8-6 this]] would be perfect but it's another £20 shipping to get it by Christmas.

Just to warn you, mine is quite thin.

Sn0tnose · 12/12/2019 17:38

We have slankets. We also have no shame; they’re cosy!

The Ultimate Slanket from Amazon is lovely. It’s thick, very soft and has a pocket at the bottom which you can put your feet in if you want. You can wear it back to front, but depending on how big he is, it may not join in the middle. Or if he’s not really tall, there’ll be an awful lot of fabric behind him.

TwigTheWonderKid · 12/12/2019 17:47

He's about 5'8 @Sn0se and quite skinny so that sound like it could be a winner!

I've got one. I prefer to wear it like a cardigan because it keeps my back warm. I sit down and it wraps right around my feet because it's so long.

RealJudas · 12/12/2019 18:44

DH and I have slankets, they're so fab and cosy.... When he wants to walk about, DH gathers up the bottom and throws it over his shoulder, he looks like an utter tool..... I, on the other hand, leave mine on the sofa.

OneMoreLight · 12/12/2019 18:54

What about a fleece poncho? I've seen people wearing them at festivals on a night when it gets cold in the campsite.

Katinski · 12/12/2019 18:57

Alan Smith, the r.4 news announcer has a slanket - it's very cold down in the basement of broadcasting house so if you tune into the late night r4 news, it's a nice image to put to the voiceSmile
How do I know? Well, he's an Archers listener and used to join in with the online T/A chat - and told usGrin

fruitpastille · 12/12/2019 19:02

Mine is too long to walk around in.

TwigTheWonderKid · 12/12/2019 23:18

OMG @Katinski that's swung it fo rme. If it's good enough for Alan Smith then that's what I'm going for!

i had one but found it a nuisance i think a dressing gown or onesie is better

OpheIiaBaIIs · 13/12/2019 08:51

I've got three - one for when the other is in the wash, and a spare. I refuse to feel shame.

Yes, you can wear them 'back to front' although that means the pocket is on your back. They're a bit long to wear dressing gown style and will trail on the floor. I like to wrap mine right around me and tuck the collar in on itself before I sit down, so I'm a giant fleecy sausage. There is nothing warmer or cosier.

My original slanket (the branded one) is my favourite, it came from QVC years ago (it's lasted/washed really well). But the Amazon
own brand oness are very good too. I recently bought the extra large one in brown - it was reduced from £22 to £11 and is big enough for me and DH to wear together with an arm each, if we wanted to we do
