Yasmin pill for acne

I've suffered with ache for a few years, mainly on my chin and jawline. I've tried long term antibiotics and a long list of different products- any improvements have been very temporary. I'm now trying a different contraceptive pill which I'll start next week.

I'm interested to hear people's experiences of the Yasmin pill? Even if you haven't taken it specifically for acne. I've heard a few horror stories!

I took yasmin for about 3 years for my acne and it worked wonders. No side effects, my acne cleared up! Since I stopped taking it, my skin has suffered. I was advised from the beginning I couldn't be on it for longer than that due to the DVT risk. Well worth going on it in my opinion though! xxx

I loved taking yasmin for my skin. I’ve tried everything (almost 20 years of crap skin!) , even roaccutane and nothing was as good as yasmin. No side effects for me either, I would definitely recommend giving it a try Smile

I took Yasmin for 15 years and loved it. No side effects at all. I only stopped taking it because I have autoimmune conditions and went into early menopause.

I took it and it triggered depression. I don't know why. I was better after I stopped it but if I am honest I don't think I have been the same since. Sorry. I know this isn't what you want to hear.

If you want to try something different Differin topical lotion really worked wonders for me. So much that I don't need anything for my skin at all now

I’ve takes a few different pills for my acne the last 20 (!) years, Dianette, then Femodette then Marvelon which was unavailable for a while so tried Yasmin but tbh I didn’t get on with it, I’ve heard it’s been great for others though. Nothing major but it didn’t seem to be as effective and had a low mood/libido. Gedarel was the last one I took that worked well for my skin, hoping it’s still available after this pregnancy!

Hope it works for you.

Thanks for all the replies.

Witchofzog I have differin gel which helped to start with but doesn't seem to do anything now.

It's things like depression that worry me (aside from the spots getting even worse of course!) I'm fine at the moment but have suffered in the past.

I used Yasmin and my skin was so much better. I even delayed TTC to avoid coming off it! Was devastated when they wouldn't put me back on it when I finished breastfeeding. I had no side effects at all (apart from glowing skin Grin)

OrangeZog · 11/12/2019 21:53

I got on really well with it and originally went on it for my skin. I stayed on it for years. After children I tried another one which I didn’t get on with and am now, problem free, back on it.

Witchofzog · 12/12/2019 08:26

Oh sorry to hear the Differin isn't working any more op

@orangezog Are we related lol?! Xmas Grin

Polkadotties · 12/12/2019 08:28

Works really well. I think it’s the most highly prescribed pill for women suffering with PCOS

Honeybee85 · 12/12/2019 08:31

I took it for years and it really cleared up my acne.
I stopped taking it as I don’t want all these hormones in my body anymore.

usernotfound0000 · 12/12/2019 09:10

I was on Yasmin for about 15 years, my skin was great and no side effects. Came off the pill to have DC, when I went back on earlier this year I asked for Yasmin again, I'm on Lucette now, the nurse told me it's the same but they've changed the brand name, I'm not sure if that's correct, but my skin is still fine on the new one and no effects.

theSnuffster · 12/12/2019 12:06

Glad to see more positive than negative reviews here! Thanks so much

DD (mid teens) started taking Marvelon, and was very depressed on that. She then moved to Lucette (which is Yasmin), and has been fine. She had terrible cystic acne, which led to some scarring, and also very heavy periods. Since being on Yasmin, she has very light periods and no acne at all. She does get a bit down around her period, but she would be more down with a face full of acne, it was devastating for her self esteem.

BellaBellaBelle · 12/12/2019 12:15

I used it for a few years and it was the only thing that cleared up my skin - nothing else came remotely close. I didn’t experience any side effects either which I had done with other pills.

DamsonDress · 12/12/2019 12:21

I was on Dianette for years for acne due to PCOS until it no longer was effective. Dr changed me to Yasmin but I only lasted a few months on it because it seemed to be causing quite extreme mood swings.

That said I know quite a few people who had great results with little to no side effects so see how you get on.

squirrelnutkins1 · 12/12/2019 12:23

Yasmin was the best pill I ever took! No weight gain and no mood swings etc. Loved it!

OrangeZog · 12/12/2019 13:22

@Witchofzog Xmas Grin
