Need help from someone who is technologically minded - zwift?

Sorry I can’t find anywhere to ask this so fo please say if there is a more appropriate section!

Currently we use an iPad on a stand in our summer house to stream Zwift and Sufferfest (virtual cycling apps) in front of our smart trainer. It’s a big annoying as it’s hard to get the iPad in the right place and it’s getting a bit old and slow now.

We’re thinking about getting a (small/reasonably priced) smart TV instead but I have no idea how streaming to this would work or if it would work? Would we need to use a device like our phones or the iPad to connect to the smart trainer/run the app and then mirror it to the tv?

I was going to try to sort this for DH for Christmas but I can’t get my head around it at all.

I can’t answer your question very technically, but I can tell you my DP does zwift etc and streams it from iPad to old TV we have set up in garage, so that it’s on a bigger screen. It must be via wi-fi or Bluetooth or the like (scratches head, never really taken an interest......)

I’ll try to ask later & find out finer details for you 👍🏻

Possibly useful article with graphics here: www.smartbiketrainers.com/broadcast-zwift-device-onto-big-screen-tv-3827

We have the iPad plugged into the tv via a lightning to hdmi adaptor cable. Works great for zwift

iPad via WiFi works for me but it is a bit flaky at times for some reason.

@BuzzShitbagBobbly That’s really helpful, thanks!

@CMOTDibbler I think that’s what we’ll end up doing. I was hoping I might be able to bypass the intermediate iPad but I think that would require appleTV which seems like quite the expense just for Zwift and I don’t think Sufferfest is supported either!

@msmith501 our WiFi is patchy in the shed too. We often use a hotspot.
