Do I need a GP?

I've had this on my face for a few days.

It started off small but very painful and has grown in size over the past 2 days.
This morning it was full of green pus (sorry) which came out with the slightest pressure.

The only thing I'm concerned about is the redness around it, I don't know if that's to be expected with a boil(?) or whether it's something to see a GP about.
I called my surgery this morning and they can fit me in as an emergency tomorrow but no appointments whatsoever today.

The reason for the anxiety, I've had sepsis twice before.

What would you say to do? Just keep it clean and wait for it to go down or see the GP? I really don't want to have to visit the surgery unless my face is going to fall off.

Thanks.

I'd see a doctor about this. It might need lancing and/or antibiotics.

Memoriesmemories · 11/12/2019 09:25

Yes see a GP today

Babdoc · 11/12/2019 09:32

Definitely see your GP. I’m concerned about the two previous episodes of sepsis- have you been investigated for causes of lowered immunity, such as diabetes, OP?

Thank you both, can't get an appointment for love nor money today so I'll have to go in tomorrow.

Any tips in the meantime? Sudocrem maybe?

OP posts:

I would just disinfect it. I wouldn't use Sudocrem. I am not a health care professional!

GloGirl · 11/12/2019 09:36

Walk in? Phone 111?

BaubleTheLumpOfCoal · 11/12/2019 09:36

@Babdoc
No one has investigated anything unfortunately.
My surgery isn't great, they diagnosed my chronic pain as being postural without any diagnostics, I went to physio who buggered my back up further - tests revealed compressed discs and a hip joint, pretty much bone on bone.

I don't hold out much hope.

Will pop to see the GP tomorrow though.
Thank you

@GloGirl I was thinking 111, but it just seems a bit drastic.
My local area has declared an emergencies only and everyone else gets turned away.

I called the GP at 8:30 when they opened, got through at 8:34 and all appointments were gone!

Looks like a boil. I get them occasionally. And yes lots of redness round it.

Get a flannel soaked in hot water as hot as you can stand and apply that a few times a day.

GloGirl · 11/12/2019 09:53

Keep your eye on it then. If you get a temperature, or the redness spreads (it looks localised for now) then I would class it as an emergency for the walk in.

In the meantime if you can take any a bit of ibuprofen for swelling and for pain, and a cold compress might help Flowers

BaubleTheLumpOfCoal · 11/12/2019 11:56

Thanks @GloGirl

That's another thing which bugs me. It's so sore, I can't rest that side of my face on a pillow without it feeling as though I've been punched.
So odd.

Trying some heat and cold on it now.

Call them back. A nurse will be able to check and treat that.

Spidey66 · 11/12/2019 11:57

I'd go to a chemist for that tbh, and then GP if they suggest it.

BaubleTheLumpOfCoal · 11/12/2019 12:25

@snowybaubles There was nothing at all they could offer me today - I did say I didn't need a GP, but nada.

@Spidey66 I'm going to speak to the pharmacist later.
I really do want to avoid the surgery, huge norovirus outbreak and not something I want Sad

Definite boil

custardbear · 11/12/2019 13:08

Ouch! See a pharmacist - I'd also try hot flannels and hot salty water

cptartapp · 11/12/2019 13:14

Get some Fucidin cream. Some pharmacists sell it over the counter.
Nurse.
