When do you stop buying Xmas presents?

No matter how early I start buying Santa presents and how much I've got, I always seem to have a wobble in December, feel like I haven't bought enough and buy more.

Does anyone else do this? I need to stop.

My ds has been told he's only getting 1 present this year (because he asked for the Nintendo switch). He's happy with this, I don't think he'd be disappointed if he only got one present but I can't stop feeling guilty and buying extra little bits.

About 4 presents too late

NeverGotMyPuppy · 11/12/2019 07:49

That's why I dont buy anything til.december unless I see something I dont think I'll see again or there is a particularly good deal.

Trying to avoid the twitch at the moment. 6yo DD has added Frozen stuff to her list at the last moment. I keep reminding myself it's her birthday in March.

If it's not wrapped by Xmas it stays in the shop is my motto!!

Winterdaysarehere · 11/12/2019 08:02

*xmas eve!!

Deckthehallswith · 11/12/2019 08:03

I didn't buy anything until the black friday sales this year so end of November but still getting twitchy now.
@aroundtheworld he hasn't asked for one single thing extra because he's sure if he's getting the switch that that's the only one thing he's getting, he's not even expecting a selection box to go with it. I think that makes me feel even more guilty.
I keep asking him will he be upset if his brother and cousins get ten presents and he only has one, he's really sure he'll be happy because "there's no time to be sad on Christmas day".

Once I have bought one present for everyone in my family.

Kyvia · 11/12/2019 08:13

Oh your DS sounds adorable

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/12/2019 08:19

My DS has also asked for a Nintendo switch. I've bought him a few other small bits - a hamper of sweets, a T-shirt, etc.

I find it hard because I'm divorced and my ex is on a good salary, so as well as presents from me he will get a lot of things from his dad, and my mum buys him a lot too (he is her only grandchild and she dotes on him). I do worry about him being spoilt, but I like to think I am bringing him up with a good attitude.

Iamnotaroboteither · 11/12/2019 08:20

You NEVER stop buying presents. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. (Please help me, I am a shopaholic).

Deckthehallswith · 11/12/2019 10:33

@Waxonwaxoff0 having lots of things one day a year won't make him spoilt so don't give yourself a hard time about that.

@Iamnotaroboteither at least you have admitted you have a problem, that's the first step for recovery Xmas Wink

Ive found my people! I start buying in June due DC have a birthday on xmas day. I was so smug saying im all done, and yet I have just ordered some more.

Deckthehallswith · 11/12/2019 15:42

@Cuckoobananas it seems that it doesn't matter whether I start shopping in June or November, I still get this pre Christmas wobble where I need to buy more Confused at least I'm not alone in this Smile

Every year I shop and buy until it 'feels' right.
I dont have a strict criteria for how much to buy each person but I mentally make a tally as I buy stuff and then wrap in one long session. I might even swap and change the odd thing from person to person to get the balance right if I fell that Ive over/underdone it.
Its a nightmare of my own creation as Im sure that no-one will die if they only get 1 thing from me. Im an inveterate shopper who loves trawling through shops and picking up bargains . I dont buy randomly ,I only buy with a particular person ( maybe 2 if they are generic items) and Im usually satisfied with my purchases.
I would ,in one corner of my mind, love to only have a few large items to buy and wrap but then I know I would have the urge to add just a little something extra. Im incurable I think.

ritzbiscuits · 11/12/2019 16:19

I'm usually done by Black Friday, get the absolute last little bits then.

I have a list I stick to. I've added up the cost of my son's presents and that's absolutely put me off twitching to buy anything more!

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 11/12/2019 16:29

The year dd got a phone as her 'only' present I bought her a few useful bits such as pjs, school stationery and some new bedding, so she would have some other presents but they were things I would have bought anyway.

DonaldTrumpsChopper · 11/12/2019 16:35

This is me!

I force myself to wait until the week if Black Friday, write a list, and then still find myself adding stuff at the last minute.

DS1 is getting one big present this year, and DS2 a number of smaller presents. I keep seeing things that DS1 would love, and turn feel I ought to add to DS1's pile...

Mind you, the last minute buys have often been the most successful..

Funnyface1 · 11/12/2019 18:13

I keep going throughout December. I start with what they've asked for, then get things I know they'll like as I see them.

countdowntochristmas · 11/12/2019 18:30

Me too , I keep buying stocking fillers argh .
I've not even wrapped anything yet .
I've got 1 voucher to get that it .
I need to stop online shopping , ds birthday in January though so can keep 1 or 2 things for then .

Apolloanddaphne · 11/12/2019 18:33

I thought I was done but I went into town today and got a bit carried away! I want it to be a lovely Christmas as my DF died in the summer and I need to make sure I have spoiled my DM. I am unrepentant!

LoonyLunaLoo · 11/12/2019 18:38

Aww he sounds fab and really unspoilt. I think I’d get him a few little bits to open as a surprise but not too much!

followthestardis · 11/12/2019 18:44

a whisker away from my overdraft Blush

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 11/12/2019 18:51

Just one more...

JaJoJe · 15/12/2019 19:26

in January lol.

My sons birthday is in January so I buy right through.

JaJoJe · 15/12/2019 19:28

I should say I suppose they aren't Xmas presents but I buy stuff then decide which is for birthday and which is for Xmas right before Xmas. Then hit the end of December sales.
