Sky Q help!

Starksforthewin · 10/12/2019 23:43

Switched to Sky Q a few weeks ago.

I absolutely hate it! Seems to take so many more clicks on the remote to get to where I want to be. Plus the stupid remote is too small and keeps sliding down the sofa cushions.

Will I get used to it? Does anyone else feel the same?

Also the stupid ‘mini box’ keeps failing, telling me it can’t find the bloody network, so I have to keep ‘reinstating’ it.

I am so close to throwing it out of the window. I wish I could have Sky Plus back.

You get used to it. I also recommend the phone app - you can often record and watch things a lot easier on that than the box!

I still haven’t got used to the Q remote about 3 years on. I used to be able to use the old Sky Plus one just by feel, but the Q remote is completely unintuitive. Also I gave up on the touch sensitive one and only use the button remote. I agree the interface is shit but overall I stick with it for the better TV service.

If you find the mini box can't find the main box first thing in the morning there is a setting you can switch it to so it doesn't go into eco standby mode. This worked for us.

I got the Sky Q Accessibility Remote which is more like the old one. Just wanted a pause button I could find when I'm watching a movie in the dark!!

It took me a while to get used to the remote but now I find it more intuitive than the old style ones.

I agree the menu interface isn't the smoothest. But the TV choice makes up for it. I do wish they'd reinstate the 'start at User Defined' minutes thing though.

If you have persistent problems with linking your mini box then call them (assuming you haven't already done so). They were very helpful when I had this issue and sent an engineer out within a couple of days to install a WiFi booster upstairs.

Ah I love Sky Q... now.

It was a massive PITA at the beginning though.

You do get used to it in the end op, really just need to find your bearings. I found that using the voice search makes things a lot easier when I can't be bothered to search for something (plus, shouting Netflix at the remote and it popping up on the TV will never be boring for me Grin)

It does take time. I love the speech function.

Thank you all so much, I knew I would get some genuinely helpful suggestions on here!

I’m going to investigate all of them, especially the Accessibility Remote. I also used to be able to navigate by touch, now I have to keep putting my reading glasses on!

I miss the reminder function I had on my old sky box. I don’t always want to record something I just want a notification when something’s about to start

I switched to Sky Q from Virgin, had a TIVO box. Regret it every day. TIVO is wonderful
