What's the name of the mysterious Christmas card couple?

I can't remember the story? Is it a joke that people play or did it start as a genuine mystery?
You know the one where a Christmas card arrives every year and nobody knows who the senders are. It was something like Christine and Bill or Sally and Richard or something...

Janet and Roy

AdaColeman · 10/12/2019 21:38

Janet & Roy.

FredaFrogspawn · 10/12/2019 21:39

I loved the Janet and Roy days. Someone from here sent my dh a brilliant one. He was so baffled.

Janet and Roy! What was the story? Was it just a joke that started?

Ah these were brilliant

SurfingApple · 10/12/2019 22:20

Miss the Janet and Roy stories!

RoomR0613 · 10/12/2019 22:22

No I think someone was genuinely receiving cards from Janet and Roy.

It must be getting on towards at least 10 years old though.

Sunnysidegold · 10/12/2019 22:26

I remember this! I so want to do one for my parents

Marmablade · 10/12/2019 22:30

I absolutely love this! I have a very creative imagination and could certainly cook up a plausible but incredible back story. I am in Christmas card contact with an old colleague and one day she'll forget who I am and then I can start my fictitious life!

Sherloidbaisherloid · 10/12/2019 22:31

What is the story behind this?!

DiazepamHelp · 10/12/2019 22:31

Hopefully the OP will see this and comment Smile

NextdoorNeighbourIsATwat · 10/12/2019 22:40

I've had one for 'Cris and Cris'

My name is not Cris (or any other variant of).

elliollie · 10/12/2019 23:22

I'll see if I can find one of the original threads...

elliollie · 10/12/2019 23:27

Not the original but explains the story...

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 11/12/2019 02:49

We got one saying “ To Fred”. DP was like that, You kept him quiet. Grin

Kinsters · 11/12/2019 03:14

NextdoorNeighbourIsATwat there's a Chris and Chris in my parents village! She is Christine and he is Christopher (I assume..)

NextdoorNeighbourIsATwat · 11/12/2019 10:04

Kinsters, where in the country are they? [Shock]

This card made me a bit sad actually, it said (in really shaky handwriting), 'From uncle Jos and Ros (who is 90 in August)'.

I thought it was really sad that nobody had told them that they'd moved Sad

Skyejuly · 11/12/2019 10:55

I get one every year but I am sure its genuine. I feel sad no one has told them they moved!

Aycharow · 11/12/2019 14:48

We've had a mystery card every year since we've lived in this house. So if anyone knows a couple called John and Ann who never seem to get a Christmas card from their old friends Sandra and Peter, then we have had 34 of them. This year's card arrived a couple of days ago.

FredaFrogspawn · 11/12/2019 16:05

The best ones had something like , ‘ See you on 14th - well bring Roy’s home-made baklava and a cutting from the hydrangea you love so much!’

Marmablade · 12/12/2019 13:33

@Aycharow 34 years of cards not reciprocated??

Spartonian · 12/12/2019 13:48

We had 8 years of the Christmas card addressed to no one that has ever lived here.

I opened it one year to see if they had left a return address but they hadn't.

Last year was the first year we did not receive one.

Which one was it that had something about, they (Janet & Roy) would bring the caravan and just spend a few days on their friends, driveway and they could not wait to see them on the 28th.
I don't think I ever read an update.

Yokohamajojo · 12/12/2019 13:59

Our first christmas card every year is for the guy we bought the house of. That was 2008! I have no forwarding address and this guy doesn't leave one either. His name is actually Roy as well Grin

Aycharow · 12/12/2019 14:30

@Marmablade So it would seem!

We've searched for people with that name (the envelope has their surname on it) and although the house number and postcode are ours, the street name is spelled very slightly different to what it actually is, and we've searched for that as well. No such street anywhere in the UK. We looked in the phone book early on, no sign of the people in in there either. One of our neighbours has lived here since the houses were built and apparently nobody of that name has ever lived here.

We just put it up with our other cards; I shall worry if we ever stop receiving it.
