When would you send him back to school

Ds8 has been off school since Thursday with this horrid cold/viral bug that's been going around. On the first few days he was very lethargic, high temp, vomiting and barely moved off the sofa. Over the weekend he picked up and now he's happy, playing and eating again but still a bit sleepier than usual. He also has a really bad barking cough but the doctor says his chest is clear. When would be reasonable to send him back to school? I don't want to rush him back just for him to deteriorate again but other than the cough he seems pretty much back to normal now. Wwyd?

He could go back to school imo, and I’m usually overcautious. Cough is very difficult to get rid of completely so if no temperature and his chest is clear it’s ok. I would stay out of swimming or cross country running this week but otherwise it sounds fine.
I think he’s sleepier than usual because his sleep is interrupted by his cough. Could you move bedtime earlier?
He also might have worse sleep because he’s inside all the time and less active. In this case going back to school will help.

Probably would’ve sent him today.
Myself, then my DH, then my son all had it.
My son was ill sun/mon/tues/weds but was definitely on the up on weds.
I took him to school on Thursday, spoke to his teacher to assure her no issues if he is struggling to give me a call to pick him up. She was also croaking and about 1/2 the class have some sort of cold/bug right now!
My daughter is currently annoyed she hasn’t caught it to get days off Grin

It's a really nasty sounding cough but he is so much better than he was at the beginning. I'll see how he is in the morning but I'll plan for school. I just don't want him tearing about and setting himself back again. I think the tiredness is due to the illness taking it out of him. From a selfish point of view I also want him to be well for the weekend because we are going to visit relatives down south so don't want him poorly again for that!
