Where’s the best place to buy nice wood furniture on a budget?

I would like to be able to see it in real life before ordering. I can think of:

Oak furniture land, but it’s slightly over my budget.

Next - is their wood stuff really wood?

Ikea - not everything that looks wood is, but I’ve bought some great stuff in the past.

Second hand shops.

EBay, preloved, charity shops, facebook are all where I have got my furniture from.

I missed out on a lovely dresser in a 2nd hand shop, I was waiting my turn to be served and this woman just slapped the money down on the counter as her husband and his mate started carrying it out. I was that gobsmacked I could only muster a what the hell!

The problem with eBay and second hand shops is not only waiting for something suitable to turn up, but the time and driving wasted driving round to look at it so see whether it’s suitable or not.

True. But that is how you build a lovely home IMO. And there's so much on ebay for peanuts that there must be something you like
