Leslie Ash on TV this morning

I happened to see Leslie Ash on TV this morning saying her career ended when she became disabled because of getting a hospital superbug.

My memory is that her career ended, years before the illness, when she had lip fillers that went terribly wrong and she became the poster girl for the trout pout.

Sadly her face still looks very strange and could barely move her lips during the interview. I think it is a bit disingenuous of her to claim her career came to a halt when she became disabled, which is totally dreadful in itself, but not exactly the real reason as to why she could not find work anymore

Its mean not to feel sympathy for someone who has been so very ill even if they did have a hand in it. How lacking in compassion people can be is beyond me.

Blimey, that must be one of the first recorded incidents of “rough sex” being used as an excuse for injuring a woman.

'both sides are at fault' for him punching her to the floor?

As the article says, when the 999 call about the 'energetic sex' was made, she was fully clothed, according to workmen who were there. A cracked rib and punched lung, what sort of sex is that?

I worked in a hotel next to the restaurant they owned back in the late 90s. I saw what was going on with my own eyes. She’s the victim here.

I wonder why? Just because she keeps putting it out there doesn't mean it has to be read!

Populist crap can be ignored. And her sister in particular just as media hungry. Seriousy, why does such shit sell papers? An ever insatiable public appetite for nasty gossip!

I wonder why too. It's not like she needs the money, is it? She sued the NHS for £5 mill.

If her sister is media hungry, the so is Ash. She should just accept that her career is over (for which she was record breakingly compensated for when she sued the hospital). If she stayed out of the public eye, she'd soon be forgotten and nobody would be speculating. And whoever said upthread was right, however mean that was. Her career started its down slide when had lip fillers (and despite what it might sound like, I do have sympathy for her, but if you keep putting yourself in the public eye, expect to be talked about).

The victim isn't at fault. Stop excusing domestic abuse You misread me... I was likening her situation to that of a couple I knw, who most definitely were both at fault, both alcoholics and mutually violent.

Or do we disbelieve her 'just because' it best fits someone elses narrative?

I wasn't blaming one over the other... just saying that she herself says otherwise, had her own demons and might just be telling the truth - they are/were both abusive and may or may not have worked their way through it, together!

We don't know!

Wow, I just read that link posted above. What a horrible life she has had at his hands, he sounds like a violent thug, and shocking to know she has stayed with him after all that.

I also read she got huge compensation payout from the NHS for contracting MRSA while being treated in hospital after the 'rough sex' injury.

Sure. Broken rib and a punctured lung from falling out of bed. Happens all the time.

hed attacked her previously and she had an order out against him. Neither side has denied that.

Her career ended because her face looked so odd after the trout pout episode. Her face has looked odd ever since. Not the MSRA, although that won't have helped seeing as she had mobility problems afterwards.

She was a very pretty woman, but not a particularly good actress. Once the pretty was gone, so was the career.

She got a huge amount of compensation, it felt disproportionate to her loss of earnings.

I feel much sympathy for her contracting MRSA, but her career was already dead in the water after her ill advised lip fillers which was before she got ill. She chose to get permanent lip fillers from a person who wasn't properly qualified and has admitted this herself. Unfortunately, her lips looked so ridiculous that it made it hard for anyone to cast her or for an audience to take her seriously in any role. Her illness was unfortunate and very sad, but her career stalling was entirely down to her poor choices regarding cosmetic surgery. I remember even when she was in Holby city using a cane, and they incorporated her disability into the role, her lips still looked ridiculous and were very very distracting.

Why is she suddenly on telly and in the Guardian? Is she selling something?

Shes running some webite that sounds interesting but thats it as far as I can see

Whoever did her lip filler obviously botched the surgery. I don't understand how you can have zero sympathy when what she had done was not what she asked for? People have plastic surgery all of the time these days, it does not mean we cannot have sympathy for them when it goes wrong

@betaboo

I think the 'lip filler fail' came at around the same time as the bad illness she had. Can't remember the timeline exactly, but I think the lip filler thing was a around 2002/3 and the MRSA bug was around 2004.

She was a very pretty young woman (and she still is attractive,) but those 2 things combined sadly did her career no favours.

Right now, I think she looks OK actually, and especially as there are SO MANY women (much younger than her) who look hella weird and awful because of their bizarre fillers.

Even IVY off Corrie (Lynne Perrie) looked weird when she had her facelift/fillers around 1993/4, but now (looking at her on retro Corrie on ITV3) she doesn't look that bad. Her face looks a bit 'puffy' but not awful. She was finished from Corrie because of that, as the Corrie bosses said she looked so weird (at the time!) As I said, she would be classed as not looking too bad now.

Her own tv shows... you lot are making me into a Leslie Ash stalker Grin

She seems to feel sufficiently recovered, in charge of her pain meds to want to rekindle her career.

She herself admits "she didnt do her homework" when it came to to getting lip fillers. I'm not blaming her per se, the person who did it was obviously at fault but it seems a tad unwise for an actress whose occupation is very much based on her looks to not research facial injections properly. We all make mistakes but sadly this one ended her career.

It was the lips and botox gone wrong that did for her career.

Haven't seen her on telly but she looks bloody brilliant in The Guardian.

Fair play to her. Can't believe she's 59.

Why was she on telly? She got her money. Go away.

What a strange attitude.

She was awarded compensation for medical mistakes/malpractice. There was no condition that she had to live in seclusion. No amount of money compensates for the loss of a career you love, or loss of mobility. She has to make a new life for herself.

I don't know what she is promoting. Maybe it is performance related. Maybe it isn't but she wants to use her public profile from her former career to promote her new venture.

Completely up to her.
