I'm far more likely to vote for a political party who spam my doormat with numerous wanky leaflets which I'm faced with when I get home after a long day at work...

... said no one ever, surely?

Do any of them honestly think this is a good idea?

I don't want to come home to a massive pile of junk mail. It's intrusive.

Do any of them really think this is a good idea?

LibDems have gone one step further and used some kind of witchcraft to find my name and address theirs directly to me. And our local Tory man looks like Christopher Lee in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. It's unsettling seeing him sticking out of my letter box.

Why do they do it? What is the point? It's incredibly wasteful of paper.

All political parties have access to the electoral register. They'll have got it from there.

BigStripeyBastard · 09/12/2019 20:56

Bloody Farage et al posted me a pamphlet. Then they subsequently have posted a further 7 through my door. Got another one today.
To be fair, they are brilliant.... very absorbent.... 😆

Cyoilo · 09/12/2019 21:01

I'm on letter/leaflet number I think 13, could be more from the lib dems Confused. Only had one from everyone else. Good to inform people but after a certain number it just ridiculous and 13 is well over that number

TonOfLead · 09/12/2019 21:26

Most of the political parties round here haven't bothered with any leafleting/canvassing.

I did get a leaflet from the Brexit Party though. Which was conveniently lying next to the front door when I spotted a slug that had somehow found its way into the house. The leaflet worked fine as a slug-ejector.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 09/12/2019 21:31

Christopher Lloyd. Not Lee.

Apologies, Christopher!

Ah yes, we got a great leaflet saying "Britain needs Christian values" - they spelt the name of our town wrong!

Although they are offering 12k to every newlywed couple to battle "relationship breakdown", and having just got married, I could get behind that 😜

Well look on the bright side, you didnt have to spend over 2 hours sorting 1500 of the buggers from various sources into street order, then deliver them at your busiest time of year whilst occasionally taking abuse for it. All while knowing most people will just bin them anyway.
Stupendous waste of money, time and energy.

I send them back if I can be bothered. It’s good to read them though to see what magic they are promising. I’ve only had conservative ones though.

Out locals only hover outside the local Waitrose and farmers market, and DS won’t let me play with them.

ItsChristmaaaaaaaaas · 10/12/2019 08:37

Sorry DH not DS (DS is like his mum and as a teenager can debate for TeamGB).

Verily1 · 10/12/2019 08:38

Apparently only 1 in 1000 effects how a person votes- huge waste of time and money!

Thehagonthehillwithtinsel · 10/12/2019 08:47

I'm not even sure which party my pile is from as it is only one short step from letter box to the recycling bin.
I feel the in the mood for a doorstop arguement though but no canvessers.

Whattodoabout · 10/12/2019 09:15

I was handed one in person by my local Labour MP which was better, preferred it to the mass ones sent out in the post by Farage and his merrymen.

Andonandonan · 10/12/2019 09:17

I’m annoyed that dh is getting loads addressed to him personally while I haven’t had any... they’ve obviously decided he’s a key vote and realise I can’t be influenced.

I am very sad we’ve had no Tory canvassers round though... I’ve got loads of questions ready.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 10/12/2019 09:22

I've only had 2! One for Conservative and one for Labour. But I live in a flat, so they can't stick them through my door. Both of mine have been addressed to me. Means I don't get canvassers either.

Her0utdoors · 10/12/2019 09:31

At least you don't work from home and have all the minions high on the 'honour' of traipsing the streets for the Labour Party bothering you and the dog all bloody day. An getting a gooby mouth full for some twitish bloke when you ask them to stop. He has too apparently, because I'm on the electoral register....

Samcro · 10/12/2019 09:34

me too. but they never come, nor the lib dems.

Gardai · 10/12/2019 09:37

I got two, one from the DUP cunts who had my name and address on it and seem immune to the GDPR - I ripped it into pieces. Then one from an amazingly smug conservative tosser who looks like he needs a slap.
I fume all by myself and feel powerless at having my letterbox invaded.
Arggghhh !

TheDogsMother · 10/12/2019 09:45

I've had Conservatives, Lib Dem and Greens. I wondered how the latter justified cutting down the trees Grin

Nothing from Labour but they'd probably be wasting their money round here. It's been Tory since the dawn of time.

Farahilda · 10/12/2019 09:49

All parties can access the full electoral register. It's not a GDPR breach, it's an inherent part of how the electoion process is run

Difficultcustomer · 10/12/2019 10:16

I’ve had one from each. No personal visits, maybe because block of flats. I expect marginal seats get leaflets and visits, hence BJ in Sunderland

BlindAssassin1 · 10/12/2019 10:25

As far as I know not one candidate has visited my village, though the Labour chap has visited all the surrounding smaller ones.

No flyer either. Did get one from an independent candidate who had some delightful pro-right policies Hmm how the feck I end up on their mailing lists I don't know.

We did get a leaflet from the Tory candidate - it was the blandest, poorly piece of writing, that looks like it was drawn up by child experimenting with Microsoft for the first time. So lazy is he, and so convinced that he's going to win, he wont enter into public debates or hustings, or even reply to constituents in non-election times.

I live in a political black hole.

ShinyGiratina · 10/12/2019 10:33

It would be nice to know that other candidates exist besides the safe candidate with their XX,000 majority. Not that it would really sway my opinion, but the fact that there is never any engagement from any political candidates in my neighbourhood isn't terribly affirming when they clearly know that they are a lost cause too.

timeforawine · 10/12/2019 10:36

I'm getting bloody loads too from the Lib Dems, it all goes on the fire. One from the Conservatives and about 5 from Labour

GCAcademic · 10/12/2019 10:38

The Lib Dems round here seem to be rolling in money. I’ve had four flyers from them so far (a complete waste of their time and money, and the planet’s trees, as they don’t stand a snowball’s chance in hell around here). I’m just glad it’s not a local election, so I don’t have to see leaflets featuring the gurning mug of the local Tory councillor who looks like a particularly creepy version of Albert Steptoe.
