My fucking freezer

myfuckingfreezer · 09/12/2019 07:56

Posting here as there isn't a natural topic for it and I'm climbing the walls.

My fridge freezer alarm keeps going off for no obvious reason. The door seals are fine, nothing is blocking the fan, it seems to be at temperature, but once or twice a day it starts going off.

I had to get up at 4am to shut it up last night

Anyone know how I can disable to bastarding thing?

Have you checked the temp with a thermometer? Ours is not always obviously defrosting when the alarm (correctly) goes off and if we didn’t subsequently realise the door was eg slightly adjar we would not realise.

I have nothing helpful to say but fuck me, that sounds irritating.

Defrost for 48 hrs. Yes even if it is frost free.

Khione · 09/12/2019 19:57

Mine was overheating because, although the fan wasn't blocked, somewhere the internals were frozen up.I defrosted it overnight and it was fine for about 3 months and then started again. I then did as the instructions said and defrosted for 36 hours, it has been fine since.

Hurrah you've come to help me! Grin

Those defrosting overnight, do you just sacrifice the food? It's just gone off again so I'm hoping that's it till morning Hmm

Could there be a problem with the power supply? Another thing to consider is if the ambient temperature outside the freezer is too low then the freezer stops working.

myfuckingfreezer · 10/12/2019 07:49

Dont think there's anything wrong with the power that I can see, and the ambient temperature outside the freezer is a normal household temp. Something between 17-21 normally.

What does it say in the instruction book about what the alarm means?

If you don't have it, you'll be able to download from the manufacturers website.

myfuckingfreezer · 10/12/2019 13:33

It just says that it means the temperature is rising. Gives list of causes but all based on alarm going off once, and no way to tell which one is right as can't prove a negative iyswim.

Sigh. I've now gone away for a couple of the days so the neighbours are going to love me when it starts going off constantly (flats)

Empty. Defrost for 48 hrs then put it back on. Don’t open the door until it has reached the right temp.
