Does your child do this?

My ds is 6 and for the past few months has been wanting to know times it's taking for things. For example:

He will ask me how many hours/ minutes it is till bedtime.

Ask me how long he's been led in bed for.

Ask how long it is till morning.

Ask how long we have been out for/ how long till we go home.

Ask how long it's taken him to eat / bath / dress etc.

I started off just guessing but recently he's wanted to know precisely. He's asked if I can time him on a stopwatch so he knows exactly how long it takes to get dressed or walk to school.

I didn't think anything of it until he's started getting upset and annoyed if I can't tell him an answer.

Last night he came in my room at around midnight and asked how long he'd been in bed for. Because I said about 3 hours he got upset saying he needed to know exactly how long. I had to get the calculator up on my phone and work out the minutes from 9:10 to 12:15. He then went back to bed.

Is this just something kids do?

Not to that extent, but yes. There is now way I'd have entertained that at midnight tho.
I have spent many hours getting them to work it out if my rough and ready answer isnt good enough (and then telling them it's taken so long the answer is now wrong and needs amending)

My 8 yr olds latest is adding fractions. Complicated ones.... we were adding 5/20 and 3/7 at dinner time in his headHmm

Yes mine have all done this to varying degrees at different ages. It’s all getting used to what time ‘is’.
