I found it in a tin of dressmakers pins. I either put it there because it's relevant to sewing, or because it was nothing to do with sewing but was so important that I didn't want to lose it and the only box I had available was a tin of pins.
(Well, I am only vaguely sensible!)
Maybe it is a key of some sort, but for what?
