I’ve just seen an ad on tv for Edinburgh Gin and the music they were playing was “The Night” by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons - I know this because I rewound it and used Shazam app to check.
Anyway...I used to love that song...but sung by someone else.
It was a female singer, and I think it might have been on a compilation album I had years ago - all female artists, or female lead singers in bands, from the 90s I think, so, like Sleeper and Elastica, and No Doubt.
The cover of the album was black, with a red lipstick kiss on it, and white writing...
I’ve tried googling, but I think my search terms are maybe too vague, can anyone help?

Oh gosh! I know that album cover and the song you mean but I am stuck like you!
Gives me something to try and work out while getting to finally relax.

Lene Lovich ?

JaneJeffer · 07/12/2019 23:32

Is it the Klaxons?

JaneJeffer · 07/12/2019 23:34

Or Sarah Collins?

Gemma2019 · 07/12/2019 23:35

Soft Cell did it, and Intastella

Sofacat · 07/12/2019 23:36

Any of these ?
The song was covered by Lene Lovich in 1979, by Intastella in 1995, by Soft Cell in 2002 (originally replaced by Tainted Love as their cover number in 1981) and Klaxons in 2007. The song is considered a "Northern Soul" classic due to its heavy bass production and strong beat.

Intastella

Fabellini · 07/12/2019 23:37

It’s none of the ones mentioned...thank you all though. I found all of those when I was googling, and it isn’t any of them.

Fabellini · 07/12/2019 23:41

Actually....it is Intastella! I missed that one somehow! Thank you so much !
Now I just need to find the compilation album it was on...I think I wore my cd out, it had some great songs on it.
