Tell me about your hobby!

I've decided my new years resolution this year is to start a new hobby. I work and spend time with my family, dp and dd which I love but I don't do anything for myself. I would love a hobby but I'm not particularly great at anything so looking for ideas of what I can do!

I keep and ride horses, and I ski, shoot and surf. Plus I have an unhealthy obsession with rugby, watching, not playing!

Thanks again everyone Smile
I used to love swimming so that might be a good idea. I am a terrible singer so unfortunately choir is not really an option Grin

OP I took up open water swimming about 5 years ago. It's been fantastic for my health and mental wellbeing. I'm not very fast but absolutely love it and have entered quite a few open water swim events. Many are friendly and welcoming to novices with several distances.

I've swam 1k in Windermere and 2k in a Scottish loch in events organised by the 'Great Swim'. Thoroughly recommend it!

Dowsing..absolutely fascinating hobby and we rub shoulders with people that we never would cross paths with in our little retired lives
Astrophysicists, lawyers, medical people, ceos of companies, army brass, engineers, authors ..it’s the hobby that keeps on giving as we trudge across wet grasslands with our dowsing tools in hand enthusing about finding energy vortices, ley lines, negative energy lines and so forth.

From there it had sparked a huge interest in radionics and radionic machines.

Homebrewing. I make beer and have subsequently joined a club that gets together monthly, it's very social. Homebrewing is like baking but takes a bit longer.

You don't just have beer, can also make wine or spirits, or even kombucha if you don't want an alcoholic drink

Needle felting. It’s good for me because I’m shit at anything precise and involving measuring, cutting, stitching, following patterns.

Have two horses to do most days (daughter helps now and then), running (did my first half marathon for about three years this weekend, love races!), walking, knitting, crochet, family history, recently got totally addicted to painting and drawing so now I’m doing a portrait course and learning Spanish (spend around 8-12 weeks a year working in Mallorca). Used to enjoy posting digital art on Instagram but it turned into a business and stopped being fun. I also really like live music so try to get to as many gigs as possible.

Running, crochet/knitting, baking, cycling, pilates, but my favourite at the moment... indoor climbing/bouldering. It's SO much fun - it requires problem solving and doesn't feel like 'exercise' but it works your whole body and it great for building up strength. I started maybe 18 months ago and have gone more regularly (by which I mean once a week) for about 4 months now and the improvement is brilliant. People are friendly too and unlike my other sports it doesn't matter if it rains.

I can also agree with peoplepleaser1 about open water swim events - I'm a reasonable swimmer but hadn't done open water swimming before. Did 1k in Windermere this summer too and although it's not for me it was a great experience. People were so, so friendly and encouraging.

P.s. I'm single with no kids that's why I have time for so many hobbies!

AShaveAndAHarecutHalfPrice · 09/12/2019 19:40

Oh I love hobbies. Photography, patchwork, Reading, papercrafting, cycling.

BrigitsBigKnickers · 09/12/2019 19:49

I belong to a choir but we don't sing!

( Signing choir!)

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 09/12/2019 19:51

Another Cub leader. Learnt a lot from it. It can take over your life at times (our family consists of a Beaver, a Cub, a Cub Leader and a Scout Leader)

Used to be in a choir but DH away too much now.

I used to do crochet but managed to give myself RSIHmm
Now I have discovered dot art and I love it, so absorbing and therapeutic.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 09/12/2019 23:21

Knitting, crochet, sewing, embroidery, singing, glass fusing (with a kiln)...

Bimbop5 · 10/12/2019 04:56

I started rollerskating in the summer and I love it! Feels like you're flying. I've met lots of nice people through skating at the rink and taking roller dance classes. 😊

Riverviews · 10/12/2019 09:13

Pilates and knitting. Both of them can be done at home!

Ylfa · 10/12/2019 09:19

I forgot how obsessed I am with watching the garden birds and squirrels 😀 they all have their own cafés, so everyone can eat in peace. I’m so ready to be properly old and spend my whole day sitting outside under blankets.
