Lost baggage compensation

Airline lost my bag on flight out to long haul holiday destination. V special trip. Not cheap.
Every day we (myself and the hotel) would chase for an hour and they would say they would try to put it on the next flight. It never turned up and it’s still missing a week later.
Of course I had to buy a few basics, toiletries and beachwear. I should have gone to the nearest shopping centre and replaced everything but they kept saying they would send the suitcase on.
So now I have to submit a compensation claim.
I’ve listed everything in the bag and it comes to over $3500 to replace and I keep remembering extra things that were in there.
I’m not convinced they will pay out as they don’t seem to be taking it that seriously.

I also have travel insurance. I could claim on that, but there’s a limit and it’s assessed on an individual basis.

I could also claim through credit card.

Where should I claim? Should I claim through travel insurance concurrently?The airline claim is linked to the baggage search so that is going through anyway.

Also, the holiday was somewhat ruined.
I had no clothes to go out in, one pair of knickers I had to wash everyday. None of my own toiletries and I have really allergic skin. None of my own hair products.
I basically walked round all week with flat hair, itchy skin in a kaftan from the Overpriced hotel boutique. I honestly feel like I need to be compensated But I’m useless at official complaints.
It all sounds so entitled and obviously a first world problem.
Does anyone have any experience with these type of claims?

I kept all the receipts for the stuff I had to buy, and just put all of them in to the airline - they paid up, but only what I claimed.

I would start with the airline, and then see what else you are left out of pocket for

Yes, back home now.
I have all the receipts, but the shop was v overpriced, so not sure if they’ll question that.
Can you claim on two policies, is that allowed?
There’s a limit on my own insurance policy claim, S I dot think everything would’ve covered.
but I think the airline should payout what was in the suitcase, the replacements I bought and then extra for the bloody inconvenience

My SIL’s suitcase never arrived. We were offered £100 which we refused as phone calls to friends who worked in the airport (Who eventually recovered the suitcase) came to more than that. The airline couldn’t have cared less. Eventually gave up and got nothing.

I know people are blaming the airlines but surely this is a baggage handling or airport issue?

The people who move the bags around behind the scenes generally work for the airport or a contractor, not individual airlines.

OP, if you claim, they will probably ask what other insurance you have, you can claim on different policies but it probably won't increase the payout, just split what you for receive by different companies.

American Airlines.
I get what you mean, but I have to trace it through the airline.

The claim through the airline is a compensation claim and the other claim would be through the free insurance I get with my bank account, so not an insurance policy as such. I mean it’s not like my premium would go up?
