Since there has been such active discussion on the last 2 threads, here is a new one!

Regina has always had a blind spot re DOY.

One thing to look forward to when chuck takes over.

hoteltango · 18/12/2019 12:43

Grim - I've had a quick look at that book (by Norman Baker) on Amazon and it seems very interesting. And certainly not sycophantic like some others. It's only £2.49 for the Kindle version, so I've bought that.

ajandjjmum · 18/12/2019 17:27

I think Andrew has always been favoured, but re. the Queen's delayed response on Aberfan - The Crown is largely fiction! Grin

I think he is a detestable type. Having said that, surely a paedophile is someone who has sex with children. Seventeen is not a child. 10 is? Not complaining at the press about him but think the wording should be accurate.

hoteltango · 18/12/2019 19:39

I've only got about a quarter of the way through Norman Baker's book. There's lots of pretty antiquated stuff that's still in practice, and most doesn't make much sense in what is supposed to be a democracy.

But I'm astounded by what actually the Privy Council does. It's a bit of hidden governance whereby statutory orders can be made without even being debated in Parliament. One particular thing that is interesting is that the royal prerogative can be used for preventing criminal proceedings.

GrimDamnFanjo · 21/12/2019 09:20

@hoteltango I agree, I thought I was reasonably up to speed with the case for republicanism but this made me think again.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/12/2019 13:43

Well, it's reported that he missed Betrice and Eduardo's engagement bash now ... at this rate I'm starting to wonder if he'll make the wedding

CathyorClaire · 21/12/2019 14:15

Thanks for the tip about the kindle price for the book. Have downloaded it today.

Looking forward to reading Smile

I think it's interesting PA didn't attend the engagement party. At one stage it was reported they would move the venue to somewhere which would be less of a pap magnet starry but they appear to have carried on with Plan A and dropped the duke. Confirmation of the reported ructions in the family I suspect.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/12/2019 15:02

they appear to have carried on with Plan A and dropped the duke

To be fair, Cathy, it's not just Beatrice who's involved but Eduardo too, and I doubt he'd expect to skulk around because of his future FIL's ... err ... tastes

He might have a dubious background in having left his fiance and baby for her, but if it all gets too trashy he'll probably call it quits - and I wouldn't blame him

CathyorClaire · 22/12/2019 10:52

True. No real reason for either of them to skulk but I'm more interested in the York dynamics. PA is now reported not to be going on a jolly to the mysteriously funded £13M chalet with Fergie and the girls.

All a bit counter to his claims of family support.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 22/12/2019 12:32

Even the Queen has said she was wrong not to visit Aberfan sooner. Her BIL got it right.

AnyMinuteNow · 23/12/2019 08:02

So is there any actual news on the case of pa's involvement with JE, or GM and rape of trafficked girls?

I have been watching this thread for further developments but it seems to have just become about royals gossip instead of news of his criminal activity with girls.

paradyning · 23/12/2019 13:51

I'm guessing it's busy being buried somewhere pp.
or the prosecutors are on holiday at present.

PrettyPurpleFeather · 28/12/2019 15:29

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-50927651

Well it seems that the FBI are investigating GM now as well as others connected to JE. So we may hear further developments after the festive season is over, it's a bit slow for news atm.

It was interesting that Andrew avoided the main Christmas morning church service at Sandringham. He attended an earlier one with PC using a different entrance. PC seemed to have been given the job of minding his younger brother & avoiding the press scrum. The younger Cambridge children seemed to have been used as a diversion tactic to deflect attention away from Andrew.

Stravapalava · 28/12/2019 23:43

If I was Kate, I'd be spitting feathers at that. Kids being used as a distraction. I'd be raging.

RatherSheepish · 29/12/2019 08:23

Nah, she just smiles and does what she's told. The royals (and indeed the British public) don't want a Duchess with a personality or an opinion.

PrettyPurpleFeather · 29/12/2019 10:01

I think that's why opinion has cooled towards Meghan as she has opinions which probably clash with the RF & press. I don't understand why a liberal minded woman such as her married into a family with such archaic values.

RatherSheepish · 29/12/2019 10:21

One could argue that it's time said family came into the 21st century like other royal families. Perhaps it'll change once the Queen pops clogs.

AnyMinuteNow · 29/12/2019 13:39

IMO the FBI ahould be investigating anyone and everyone who had dealings in any way with JE, PA doesn't get to not face consequences, he's a human just a human, exactly the same as the rest of us, and things needs to change if he doesn't put himself forward to help with enquiries where many children have been perpetually at risk.

If he doesn't then his implication in it seems obvious.

Yehdivvy · 08/01/2020 06:29

Been following all 3 threads although it's been a bit quiet because of Christmas. Some seriously fucked up people in the world particularly among the wealthy. Let's see what further developments 2020 brings out.

SamanthaBrique · 08/01/2020 08:00

@Yehdivvy Well the Sussexes are back at work and people are busy criticising them again instead. I mean, what are Andrew's misdemeanours when compared to the horror of Meghan going bare-legged in January??

Inkanta · 08/01/2020 15:52

I know Samantha - ridiculous!

GrimDamnFanjo · 08/01/2020 16:41

I'm glad that Beatrice will not have her wedding televised it would seem.
The thought of Andrew parading around as though nothing is wrong would be too much.
His daughters I'm sure are lovely in real life but if we have to have a monarchy then the smaller the better.

Yehdivvy · 09/01/2020 22:51

Well the big announcement from the Sussexes has certainly taken the attention off Andrew again. You'd think it was done deliberately as everyone is spitting feathers about Meghan rather than Andrew. Although I am a cynical old woman with too much time on her hands and an interest in conspiracy theories.
