Helicopter flight for my daughter- help!

Hi, I’m trying to book a helicopter flight for my DD’s 21st. She has learning difficulties and is helicopter obsessed. I can’t find anywhere that we can afford (we were quoted £780 for an hour Shock) that operates in December- they all seem to be April-September. The Virgin experience type ones all seem to be within those dates.

I’m asking because someone on here might know of an airfield that is still running pleasure flights, maybe a family member works at one etc.

DD is pretty planet friendly to run as a rule, so please don’t judge us on this one act of extravagance!

We’re in Lancashire, so hopefully Lancs/Yorks/Cumbria/Greater Manchester area.

TIA 🤞

I know a fab one but it's herts.

Bought myself a gift experience through into the blue, try on there? Or if you can afford a weekend down south I can tell you who they are! Best experience of my life I'm not joking 😁

Shockers · 06/12/2019 13:12

That’s good to hear @Fraggling! I’ve tried them, but they seem to do April-September, at least in this area.

I’ve sent a message to a wingly pilot... 🤞

Good luck!

helijet at Leeds Bradford airport seems to have much cheaper options and they run all year round (weather permitting)

Brownsauce83 · 06/12/2019 13:31

Have you tried Pennine Helicopters? They are local to me (Saddleworth) and I think run flights in lancs too. They are a lovely local company, they always give me a prize for my school raffle.

Shockers · 06/12/2019 14:44

@NannyR- I’ve emailed them- thank you!

I would totally recommend helijet. My Son has Autism, and we booked him for a flight for his 16th Birthday. The staff were lovely with him.
There's also a really nice restaurant nearby called Hawthorne farm, they do huge slices of cake.

Shockers · 06/12/2019 15:16

I just tried Pennine, @Brownsauce83- they were lovely and have lots of sites, but the ones available on our dates are too far away. Thank you though.

Helijet have a date in January @Whenwillthewashingend. I think I’m going to go with that, and give her the voucher on her birthday.

Thanks @rbe78!

Ah that's great OP, I'm so glad you were able to find somewhere and I hope DD loves it!

Fraggling · 06/12/2019 18:58

Have a wonderful time! Assume you're going up with her - enjoy! X

Fraggling · 06/12/2019 18:59

Oh maybe you aren't, if you are you should, it's amazing!

TonOfLead · 06/12/2019 19:57

These guys are north Nottinghamshire. Not sure if they are too far away

I got a go flying one, only about 15 mins in air, but I mean its an expensive thing, and I got to have a go at all controls, we zapped across herts and into London, it was well organised and the people were lovely.

Agree with pp to check reviews but wanted to give a happier story!

Fraggling · 06/12/2019 20:36

Oh didn't put price £75.

Fraggling · 06/12/2019 20:37

Weather is always going to be an issue so op if you are going Jan be prepared to have it put off. I mean that's the nature of the thing.

Shockers · 06/12/2019 22:10

I will prepare DD too. Thanks to everyone for your advice- I can’t wait to see her face when we tell her- she’s bonkers about helicopters! 🚁

Oh yes, I am going up with her!

Thank you to everyone who answered- it’s all booked, and we are prepared to be flexible if the weather doesn’t play fair.

Got my eye on the cake place too @Whenwillthewashingend Grin.
