I have had a refurbished iPad for quite a lot of years, which was taken over by my 6 year old to play on. He dropped it and smashed the screen.

I want to get a new refurbished iPad... can anyone tell me which one will be ok? Our old one wouldn't download some games because the operating system was too old. Music Magpie has iPad 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 and Air 1 and 2 plus several iPad minis. Are the mini ones as good for playing on?

Just any guidance would be appreciated! Thank you.

I’d go for one of the newer ones as with the older iPads the older minis don’t update properly anymore either.
I personally find the minis too small but it does depend on the games etc?

Thank you, I may as well get a bigger one as that is what we're used to. Think I need a screen protector :-) Any idea which models are new enough? I never keep track of technology.

I get refurbished iPads from Apple on their website. They look brand new and are packed in that way, and come with the Apple warranty still.

iPad 6 and iPad Air 2 are still good. Anything before those is too old to update properly and run all apps on now.

Thank you! Really appreciate all the help.
