Posting in chat for traffic.

I've been off work for three weeks and have just been put on 50mg of Sertraline daily to try and combat a serious bout of anxiety and work-related stress. I've had the following side effects:

  • nausea
  • dry mouth/funny taste in mouth
  • headaches
  • drowsiness
  • feeling a bit spaced out

GP said it was normal and to be expected while my body adjusts but how long can I expect it to last for roughly?

TIA :)

My side effects did ease off after the first week, and were gone entirely by week 3.

The first few days are the worst but try to stick at them, they are life changing x

Thank you :)

I've been signed off for another two weeks minimum - have to go back before thew GP will sign me off as fit to return to work.

I've taken similar meds before (citalopram) but that was five/six years ago and I think I let myself forget how horrible it was!

My side effects were worse on sertraline than citalopram, but worked much better for me.

I really hope you’re feeling better soon!

Stick with it. I had awful side effects to begin with, including severe diarrhoea for 8 whole weeks! But so glad I stuck with it, I was really ill and off work for 6 months, so so much better now.

Thanks everyone - I've had nausea but no vomiting - not much appetite but that's not necessarily a bad thing Grin

Worst at the moment is the headaches/grogginess - luckily I can spend my day curled up on the sofa with the dog for company!
