Mumsnet returner. Haven't been around for 6/7 years but I'm really struggling at the moment. Could do with support and somewhere to chat. Anyone care to join me?

Yes please- I’m struggling too x

SubordinateThatClause · 04/12/2019 23:22

Hi there! It's tough this year isn't it! It's ages since my dcs has anything and it really feels like we're overdue :(

Hi. I’m not coping at the moment. It feels like norovirus is everywhere. My anxiety re: this phobia is always high in December but this year it’s off the scale because I don’t see how we can possibly escape the bug this year.

SubordinateThatClause · 05/12/2019 07:25

I know that feeling so well. But I remember previous years like this - 2006 and 2012 in particular - and we escaped then. Not in intervening years though GrinConfused

I've been really anxious this year, because it feels like there has been so much noro about, but DS actually caught it and was ill a couple of nights ago, and it's been ok. He's now recovered, so I'm hoping the rest of us have escaped, but I feel weirdly optimistic.

DH is a teacher, they had a lot of kids off last week, but says they're mostly back to school now, so it seems to be passing.

HorseGallopingOnATomato · 05/12/2019 07:31

Can I join you please? Also struggling a lot. Would love to exchange ideas for coping strategies with people that understand!

SubordinateThatClause · 05/12/2019 09:32

Hi all! Good to know I'm not alone. Counting down to the Christmas holidays now when schools break up.

Dogcathat - well done for getting through it!!

Hello everyone! Nice to meet some fellow sufferers (not that I would wish this on anyone).

Emetophobe · 05/12/2019 17:36

DC’s school has about 15% of pupils off with it today. It is rife. I am not dealing well with it at all. I don’t want to send him in and I am just waiting for him to start with it.

SubordinateThatClause · 05/12/2019 18:55

He won't necessarily. I know it's hard. I usually rely on Public Heath England's weekly update to make me feel better but this year it's telling me there's a 40% increase in cases when compared to the last 5 years at this time. Feel rather doomed!

OP posts:
Emetophobe · 05/12/2019 19:30

Haha, me too. It made me feel better looming at it this morning and seeing that the cases had dropped a decent amount, but unfortunately even though they dropped over the U.K. as a whole, they’ve only made it into DCs school last week and this week so I don’t feel any better about it.

Bunnylady53 · 05/12/2019 19:35

I usually escape but had it at halfterm. Was only actually sick once - the worst thing was how ill it made me feel & for how long. Hopefully the colder dry weather will help kill the bugs or at least help prevent the spread.

ChickenofDoom · 05/12/2019 21:42

Oh please may I join!! It's rife in my kid's school and my phobia is really tightening its grip.

In some ways I just wish one of us would get it so that the horrific ticking timebombness of it can end. The reality of actually dealing with it is never as bad as the terror waiting for it yet I don't let that stop me whipping myself into a state.

SubordinateThatClause · 05/12/2019 21:56

Hi Chicken x

Hi everyone!
Can I join please!?

JJSS123 · 05/12/2019 22:31

Can I join please really struggling. Bought a hand sanitizer from boots which says it's effective on Noro for when I'm out and about I'm terrified

SubordinateThatClause · 05/12/2019 23:20

Hello lovely people. What are your coping strategies? I need to feel I'm ready for it so make sure I have plenty of towels, a spare waterproof sheet and a deep bucket available, bleach and Sterizar sanitiser. I have a routine if one of the dcs are ill- child and sheet on sofa, towels on floor, Sterizar after every episode etc etc.

I've lived with emet for 43 years now. Haven't actually been s* since I was 5. So stupidly irrational but good to know I'm not alone. x

WellErrr - just so you know, in answer to your thread, I've NEVER caught anything off either of my kids and they've never shared bugs between them either. They both had noro about 4 years ago, six weeks apart but it was going round the school. I didn't get it and as a single parent I had to do everything Confused!

JJSS123 · 05/12/2019 23:27

I have some sterizar on the way 😊. Have you heard of the hand sanitizers that work for the bug? I’ve always thought I was abit odd being so scared of this bug. I get it every year but this is my first year with a young baby and I have no help so I can’t be poorly I wouldn’t cope. I’m absolutely terrified. Toothbrush is in Milton over night and the washers on on a 90 with all towels and Dettol all over the sofa and sink. Bought some diorlyte and some Imodium today just to have in. I am on EDGE! Went to a gorgeous bakery today and wouldn’t buy anything because the food was all on a shelf which had no screen and you had to speak over to order and pay and I just thought it was so unhygienic to have the food out like that!!! Thank you for welcoming me. X

JJSS123 · 05/12/2019 23:28

I mean I’ve got the sterizar surface spray xx

Isadora2007 · 05/12/2019 23:31

Bless you all. It’s horrible isn’t it? I had emetophobia a few years ago I think as a kind of ptsd following chemo many years ago. I am now doing my nursing training so am often a little anxious there if people are unwell (in an elderly ward so I know they are susceptible). There’s a lot of poop but no vomit as yet so I’m coping. I do find having a plan helps but the anxiety is often bad at night. It’s definitely the fear and the not knowing if or when your family might be affected that’s worst.
Many of the bugs I’ve heard of this year are not sounding like noro- just mild sick one or two times or even just having the runs for a few days mildly etc. So that’s reassuring a bit.
But I hear you... no magic solutions here sorry. I am over the worst of it now but I just took some time for counselling and talking about it all helped.

WellErrr · 06/12/2019 06:27

Ooh what is sterizar!?

WellErrr · 06/12/2019 06:33

Just found it. How have I never heard of this!? I thought only bleach worked!??? And effective for 30 days!!

Just ordered the wipes, spray and hand foam from amazon! Can you spray it on carpets??

readyforchangenow · 06/12/2019 06:43

I'm here too, really struggling this year as schools round near me were actually closed due to so many Noro cases. My 3 yo had a stomach bug last week and my DH has had the runs for a few days but luckily he wasn't sick. I'm just so fed up of constantly thinking about it, washing hands, not wanting to go to public places and worrying my kids are picking it up at school/nursery, it's just exhausting. Like a pp said it's the fear of not knowing when it's going to arrive it's awful.
