which ancestry DNA test?

my dad would like to find out a bit about his heritage so thought I’d get him an ancestry DNA kit for Christmas but I have no idea which company is best. Can anyone recommend the best to fit with the following?

• more in depth re regions in Ireland/ UK rather than further afield but obviously would like broad info about worldwide roots. His dad is from Ireland, mother Northern Ireland

• not fussed about connecting with distant relatives but I guess the option would be good

• not really interested in the health condition testing etc

oh, I also meant to say I see some only test 1 DNA line (paternal?) whereas others seem to test 3 different lines (mitochondrial, paternal/ maternal, I may have misunderstood this). I guess the more lines the better?
